this looks to me like a normal, fast 6800GT, but there is something strange i've noticed.. it has a 350MHz core clock. is this an underclocked 6800GT or a normal one? i was under the impression that they had 400Mhz core clocks.
and how does this PNY card compare to its competitors from other companies [XFX 6800GT, ASUS 6800GT, BFG6800GT (i heard this one was OC'ed)]?
does it make any difference which company to buy from when buying video cards?
does anyone know ANY extra details on this particular card compared to other video cards? i am trying to decide if i should buy this one or if there's a better choice.
i am asking because i may be able to get it for $350, which i think is a good price.
thanks in advance!

All 6800GTs are 350MHz stock (except of course the 370MHz BFG.)

PNY had a bad incident (or set of incidents) involving broken caps on their cards. I'd stay away from them.

Also there life time warranty is the product life span not forever.

Thats a cheap cop out if you ask me.

Warranty and Service
PNY Technologies offers a lifetime replacement warranty

Read the fine print on the warranty. It is for the life time of the product. So if they are no longer selling your particular video then it no longer has a warranty reguardless of how long the actual period of time you have owned it.

edit: From looking that PNY site it appears that the 6800GT is listed has having both a "lifetime" warranty and a 1 warranty plus 2 years if you register. The "lifetime" warranty is listed at the bottom of the page and the 3 year info is listed in the blue starred circle at the left side of the page.

I own the same card. I only got the PNY Brand because that is the brand CompUSA has (I had a large store credit). I am happy with the card and I even bought the extended warranty from CompUSA. Not because of horror stories, but I just felt better.

I am very happy with the card. The ONLY downside to it (for me at least) is the HS/Fan. It is loud compared to the rest of my system (I did build a quiet system though). It's not overly loud, but I am still considering getting a Arctic cooler for it.

I'd stay away form PNY and as for the competitors I'd stay away form ASUS also. ASUS has been doing some bad things with there card line recently. One of the 6800GT's they offer is no more than a overclocked 6800nu with the pipes unlocked (700mhz DDR memoy). People who don't know better think "Wow a $350 6800GT" and then they purchuse and are stuck with what they could have gotten form a 6800nu (with a little work).

thanks for the replies. despite the warranty issues the PNY looks like a pretty good card.
but i just found a deal on an OC BFG GeForce 6800 Ultra for 400 dollars (418 after shipping.)
now, isnt this a kickass deal? i thought that 6800 Ultra's costed 500 dollars (and the BFG OC's would be even more expensive). did prices just drop very recently? for those of you who know about up-to-date video card prices, how much would you spend today on a 6800GT and on a 6800Ultra?

so, can you talk about any specific problems with this PNY? do you think its just an overclocked 6800? it has a 256MB ram, 350 core clock, etc.. everything seems fine to me.

Where did you find this deal? Make sure to check out what they score on Reseller Ratings. Great place to see if a retailer is legit.
it is actually the price after a 50 dollar rebate, and the place is totally legit and very popular.

The asus is the card I was ranting about. PNY has just had alot of issues with broken capacitors. Search these forums there are huge threads complaining about it. This is the asus I was talking about. It's still a good card, I just think that slaping the 6800GT name on it is a little decieving.

yes, i already looked at that one when browsing Newegg.
i knew there was something wrong with it when i noticed it only had 128MB ram.

I've got a PNY 6800NU (the black-friday deal). No problems. Unlocked all the pipes and have it running at 382/811.

As far as the broken capacitors goes, I haven't heard about anyone that had any problems getting it taken care of.
