Been 3yrs since I've upgraded and looking for a new system that will carry me through for another few years.How does my selections look?COmes out to around $1400,my budget was $1200 but close enough.

If you're going to go Gulftown + 580 GTX, there's not enough power in that Earthwatts...not unless you're going to run everything totally stock. The LGA 1366 platform consumes a ton of power, and the 6 core chips are no slouches themselves - combine this with the most power-hungry single GPU on the planet, and you've got a power problem. Also, there's no point whatsoever going 1366 today unless you want to run triple SLI/Crossfire. You have a single card there, and definitely do not have the PSU to handle more, so I would say not to that, right?

However, if you trade down to a Sandybridge Core i7 2600k, you'll get better single-threaded performance, nearly the same multithreaded performance, and cut your power consumption by about 100w..enough for your Earthwatts to handle (that and you get some overclock headroom) You'll also save about $300.

Also, why spend $300 on a fast hard drive like the Velociraptor when you already have an SSD? Just buy cheap and large 7200 RPM and be done with it.

Good points,this was the kind of feedback i was hoping for.My main concern was a computer that could take me a few years.I play a lot of games and am starting to get into video editing.
I will do some investigating into that cpu and i guess a different mobo to go with it
 
In addition to what defaultluser mentioned, skip the Dominator RAM since it costs nearly double the price per GB as most other DDR3 RAM even with the same speed and timings. In fact, 2GB of that RAM costs almost as much money as 4GB of many of the other RAM modules.
