Can someone tell me exactly how the Spyder2Express works? How does it calibrate the monitor specifically? Does it use color profiles within Windows or does it tell you what settings to change in the monitor's OSD?

Thank you.

It makes changes to the LUT of your videocard drivers and then creates a color profile that loads with windows. If you get the Express package...I highly recommend grabbing the free beta version of Coloreyes Display Pro (if still available) software to use with the Spyder Colorimeter...it makes a noticeable improvement over the very basic Express package.

Thanks for the information! Unfortunately it is what I was afraid of as I run Linux and not Windows.

it's all an automated process with the Spyder, and it calibrated an ICC profile and alters the graphics card LUT as said above. It's not a bad bit of kit at the price. Some more details on it here actually :)

Dream on. Though there is a person considering writing drivers for it. This is also another reason why I don't use Linux, half my stuff wouldn't work. :p

Also the Spyder2 works really well, significant difference. I have the Pro version. Worth it if you use Windows. Vista compatible.
