How does my office (or computer room) look?

So, this weekend I purchased a huge IKEA Galant system, plus the Galant filing cabinet/drawers, plus a little TV stand.

I'm not sure if I'm too happy with it though because I don't think the black/brown color I got matches the room, and the desk is also HUGE (I got the desk plus two extensions).

Here is my old layout: (more pictures available here)

What do you guys think?

My wife and I think it really doesn't go at all because it doesn't match the blinds or the couch-thing (chase?). We are completely terrible at interior decorating.

Anyways, what do you think? Also, feel free to post pictures of your own office or computer room :)

Why not go with the beech color as it would go better with the blinds and doorway trim?

bezant: I'm in the middle of rearranging the whole room which is why it looks a mess on the floor :)

00PS: Like I said, my wife and I have absolutely zero decorating skills. In the show room it looked nice but after assembling it I don't think it goes very good.

The problem is the IKEA store is over two hours from my house and I'm not sure if they will even take this stuff back or exchange it....

Well, it doesn't hurt to call them up and see if they can do an exchange for another color. You didn't mar up the wood/particle board did you? Still have the origional boxes and instructions? I'm unsure of IKEA's return policy as I bought my Galant used.

That's what I'll probably do.

What do you think of the style of the new desk versus my original?

I like the new desk better as things don't feel so cramped. Though is that third monitor going to be used? or is it just temp. storage?

The third monitor is going to be a second desktop machine for my wife or as a second desktopm machine for me. :)

Do you think I can just change the blinds or would it really look a lot better if I just got a different color desk?

If you change the blinds you run into the siding parts being a different color ... i think changing the desk ... *might* be easier.

I like the look of the new desk, but just change the carpet color, paint the trim around the floor and the windows white and change the blinds.
Maybe get a new couch in there.

The carpet is fairly new so I can't really change it...

I also agree that I can't really make the blinds black (or dark) because it seems to completely conflict with the window frame.

I could buy curtains but then whenever I open them it will show the window frame and still look like it doesn't match.

As much as I don't want to repack all of this and drive two and half hours away and then rebuild the deks, it seems like the best option... *shrug*
