i have a P4 3.0c and a x850xtpe agp and i wanted to know if there is a way

Depends on the game, but I'd say you're fairly close to being limited in most of today's titles.

Generally if you can decrease resolution and not see an increase in fps, you're cpu bottlenecked. You can also break a gpu bottleneck into parts like fill rate, shader, etc.

funny thing is its mostly true, you need about 2.4 on a amd 64 to be free of bottlenecking under games like cs:s or doom3. ive been in your boat a few times. my old 64 was bottlenecked and now my duelcore is. the good news is that under higher resolutions like 1280 and above you dont get high enough framerates to worry about a bottle neck.

overclock it a little and play at higher resolutions and the card will limit you, not the processor. dont worry and have fun.

same goes for sempron , athlon xp's, budget 64's,. hell people with 512 meg of ram or less will be limited.

You're joking right? CS:S doesn't need much to run ... obviously, its not the most graphically challenging game to run. Hell my 1.6Ghz 9600SE at work runs it without a hassle.

IMO, most CPU's will not bottleneck if you are running DX9 games (which the majority are)

Doom3 and Quake4 being the OpenGL exceptions of course, as well as some older games, but the older games should run at more than acceptable framerates anyways with even mid type hardware nowadays.

Guessing you really love those low settings, and not constant 60fps?. on that comp anyway

1024 x 768 doesn't miss a beat on CSS. Doesn't really bother me and it's my work PC and the game was free, i wouldn't actually pay for CS-CS:S.

the reason he's running it so well is because HL2 has defaulted to either DX7 or 8 for his card. if you've got a DX9 card it will default to DX9 and look better, but run slower. I think its a great system, and allows for people that normally wouldn't have the power to run the game to enjoy it.
