i was just curious as to how people obtained their distros...

personally, i use Azureus (a BitTorrent client) and the torrents from The Linux Mirror Project

it's really sad though, at any given time, even for disc ONE of a distro, there are maybe, 4 to 8 seeds...i've never seen double-digit seeds :(

bittorrent and ftp. sometimes http downloads. my bittorrent client is Azureus 2.2.0.0, and i use filezilla and flashget for ftp/http. but i prefer bittorrent just so i can help others get linux :D

downloading suse 9.2 bittorrent and kanotix with ftp right now

definitely from http or ftp which ever mirrors are faster. although i did download the fc3t2 through the bt and it was pretty fast.

FTP from one of the FreeBSD mirrors...There's one local, so it generally works out well. Since I don't run Linux willingly any more I probably wouldn't bother with the Linux Mirror Project.

FC2 : FTP download
Gentoo : FTP Download
SUSE 9.1 : Courtesy of NOVELL :D :D
Solaris 9, 10: FTP

Using FC2 on my laptop.
Suse 9.1 on my development PC

Depends on which distro.

If I'm trying something new, I'll pull BT, FTP or HTTP (in order of preference).

I'm I'm using Debian, I'll use FTP off the mirror we have in the server room. 10MB/s to a mirror is nice. Technically, I'd call this rsync, since that's how we get it from the outside world.

Downloaded Mandrake (FTP), Debian (BT), SuSE (BT), and most recently Gentoo (FTP) which is why I put Ftp.

They say it helps with resources if you use the BT download (saves them bandwidth money?) so whenever possible I do that.

I get my FreeBSD install CDs from the ftp mirrors, but I usually go for a bootonly-CD and install over ftp.

First choice is FTP, then HTTP, I just downloaded Mandrake 10 from LinuxISo_Org about 2 weeks ago, which is what I'm posting on now.

Been Windows free for about 5 days now...

yeah, BT is most definately the best way for the community although, at the moment, it may not be the fastest way for the individual. but if we can spread the word and get more people BTing for TLMP then it will be both faster and, still, better...

how many of you guys leave your torrents open after d/ling? i know i do....

i said ftp, but i'll use http/ftp. whichever the fastest mirror is. though it is usually ftp.

Have to love those systems that don't even need a initial boot disk to install from. :p

I just get the Debian base 110mb cd from FTP.

I just get the Debian base 110mb cd from FTP.

Now my next FreeBSD install will have to be from a netboot, just because. :D

(But I get your point. The server it boots from was booted with the boot floppies and installed from an official ftp mirror, I think. Possibly a bootonly-CD.)

well, bittorrent doesn't work through my proxy. that's my excuse, what's yours?
