besides the gas compressor thingy.

can i use the dust sweepers thingy? my roomie said that those were dnagerous cuz its staticy. just wondering how u guys clean them. thanks

I use a belt sander and kerosene. Gets it all......NP.

......:D

OK, how about a can of compressed air for the insides? And - every now and then the keyboard, mouse, and RatPad get wiped down with an alcohol wipe to get the gunk off. Man, they do get cruddy. Windex diluted a little for the face and case of the NEC tube monitor seems to work great.

You could probably move enough air with a compressor and air gun to generate a static charge, but I don't think it's an issue with the cans of compressed air I (and about a bazillion other folks) use. Unless it's very dry, maybe....but I've never had an issue.

I still think the "no touch" cleaning method for the insides is lowest risk, unless you've got sweaters growing in the HSF (seen it) and then dissassembly and other cleaning methods are dictated....

FWIW - B.B.S.

Anyone ever taken a Shopvac, or something like it to a computer? Seems like a good idea to me. Get a narrow nossle in there, could really get up those bunnies :)

I've found that the Windex with vinegar solution does a really good job cleaning mouse and keyboard "grunge" -- like the kind that accumulates on really old pieces.

i run my whole rig through a wash cycle of my dishwasher...:D

IF i clean it... i just blow the dust out with my mouth, keeping as much spit inside of it as possible.

Using any type of vacuum is generally not a good idea because of ESD(Electostatic Discharge). This is what those special bags try to eliminate and vacuums generate a lot of it. Go with compressed air.

I use a can of compressed air and a brush to make sure I get the dust off of all the parts.

your supposed to clean out your computer?

:D

every once inawhile i'll blow out my case with this air hose hooked to an air compressor (I guess that's what they're called) that I have. Gets the job done quick.

I've got three cats and really long hair, so I try to clean it once a month :) I put my new machine on my desktop though, so there's less dust and less cat hair to bother it :)

Compressed air to clean out the more sensitive components. I use the static wipes to clean the floor of my case, they work really well. Then again I rarely have to clean the inside of the case out, I filter all my intakes.

pee on it...then slap it around while saying "you like that you like that huh huh" ... that does the job

First, Get compressed air and I spray down the insides of my computer

Next, I take out all the fan devices and get a paper towel and wipe them down with some windex.

Then, I get some alcohol and wipe down my keyboard, mouse feet, and case.

After that, I windex my monitor :)

I'm not sure if this is safe, since it might cause some static, However I use those ear cleaners (UGH I forgot word while posting).
Clean the fans and HSF out with that.

^^ Do you mean Q-Tips? ^^

And yeah, I just use the can-o-air route. Take the comp out on the back deck and blow out all those bunnies. Usually every couple of months.

slap it through a dishwasher (this only good for the keyboard, making sure it's absolutely dry by putting it in front of a fan) and compressed air.

The best way I have found is to use a Can O' Air to blow all the dust around and then use a vac to suck up the dust you are blowing around. It requires two hands but it works great.

I have never had any problems with that method and I have used it for years.

If you a air compressor handy, just use that. Can air sucks in my opinion. But if you want to do something about the dust in your PC, just make sure you filter then input fans. Some prebuilt ones are available, but it is easy to make your own using some mesh and furnace filter material.

This is the front of my antec case, i taped a patch of filter material to the front air intake, so the air will be filtered. Just need to replace this every 6 months or so and the amount of large particle dust is GREATLY reduced.

Canned air + vacuum hose works wonders. The air loosens all the dust so you can suck it right out.

Whenever my computer gets dirty I just scrap it and buy a new one. I'm that rich :)

J/K - I take them apart about every month, bring 'em in the garage or out on the deck and blow out the dust with a small shopvac. Then I try to wipe the fan blades with a papertowel and q-tips.
