What do you use 2 clean LCD's? My monitor is getting a bit dirty and I want to clean it but I don't want to damage it. Can I use a damp cloth or do I need some chemical things?
 
i use those eye glasses cloths to remove the dust off the lcd screen. that should take away everything, unless you have pop stains on it or something :)
 
Well they are some types of stains, not really bad at all. But a few minutes ago the sun was shining really brite and I knoticed some spots that were dirty. I will try that cloth now. Thanks
 
heh, are there any cheap solutions? Like stuff I wouldn't need 2 buy, like cleaners that I already have in my house.
 
This is how i clean my laptop. Take a wet paper towel and give it a good once over, then go over it with a dry paper towel.
 
100% cotton ONLY dampened with water.

paper towels/ coffee filters will put tiny scratches all over your screen.

Ya, don’t worry about all those minerals in the water, what could they possibly do to your delicate screen?

The people who make proper cleaning fluids start with distilled water only to rip you off.
 
Don't know about you BillR but I haven't seen any water that isn't filtered. My fridge crushes ice & filters water.

Nope, no next. You are apparently the expert here.

Like I said, EVERY fluid manufactured to clean optics starts with distilled water, but hell what do those companies know anyway.

Same with water cooling unit for a PC, distilled water is the main ingredient, but once again, all those companies must have no clue either.

Were I you I’d offer my services as a consultant to all those incompetent companies. I’m sure they would appreciate your advice.
 
Don't even try to associate water coolings need for distilled water with H20 on cotton for TFT cleaning.

Thats to prevent mold & fungi, btw.

Yes, water.

Ploop it on some type of a cloth you feel comfortable using, and go VERY gental. Nowhere near the pressure you could use on a CRT.

This will fix your little spots in a jiffy.

:rolleyes: There's no need to go out and buy a 200$ reverse osmosis machine just to get pure water. :rolleyes:

ya, I tried wiping it with the eye glasses micro fiber wipe when my LCD was on and I could see how all the colors mess up when I apply preassure.
 
You two experts seem to forget all the calcium deposits etc that build up, aside from bacterial growth. It’s been a subject in the WC forum over and over.

That calcium will easily pass through your icemaker filter too. In fact optic cleaning is so sensitive before the water is distilled it’s passed through a reverse osmosis filter.

Changing the subject won’t change your total lack of knowledge of cleaning optics.

This last round is about as informative as your last few post about “use DVI and you don’t have to adjust a thing”.
 
#1, I don't water cool. I've limited knowledge on the subject, Not really interested enough.

#2 Water is fine, we've had lcds in the family for almost 5 yrs. Distilled water is not necessary.

#3 Just about every post I've made today you've replied instantly to refute my sage advice.

2-Plain water is NOT FINE, go do some reading

3-Your “sage” advice is going to cost someone a perfectly good LCD over the long term.

4-After you have over 35 years in this business maybe I’ll listen but so far your and many others ineptitude and free (wrong) advice are what gives the display forum a bad name.

That’s entirely possible, but I don’t give advice to people without factual back up and I don’t tell people to do things to their gear that can possibly cause damage.

It’s your gear, you screw it up anyway you like.

I got some paperwork with my LCD & it actually STATES to use tap water on 100% cotton.

Just STFU........u dig yourself deeper as u type

Do u sell distilled water @ extravagant prices or something? Buy too much stock in vinegar, eh?

It isn't that hard to get some distilled water....

Just boil some water on a stove top and put the cloth on some sort of hanger over the steam that comes out. TADA! Cloth with distilled water on it :p .

Where can one find this miracle solution called "H20" I tried my local hardware store but they didn't know what I was talking about.

All they had was H2O.... and yes there is a difference between 0 and O.

Hi there,

From what I have read on other forums (and what I use myself on my 2405) a mixture of 50% Isopropyl Alcohol and 50% water + a good microfiber cloth will do exactly what you need.

Always remember to apply the liquid TO THE CLOTH and NOT TO THE SCREEN! :)

Afterwards use a dry part of the cloth to wipe up any excess moisture. Do not rub to hard.

Yeah, thats it.

Anyway, I was pointing it out because 0 (zero) is not the same as O (the letter o). When I initially read it I read it as "H-20" which is what it says, but is not what you meant. Perhaps you should spend more time proofing your replys and less time calling me stupid. I did get it, I do know that you meant water, I was just pointing out that leet speak doesn't get much respect around here. Leet speak being when you replace letters with numbers.
