I will be attaching a Zalman 7000B-Cu cooler onto a 3.2E with ArcticSilver 5. Do you guys follow the directions like on their site or do you have your own methods? I always thought you should spread the compound across the entire surface of the CPU and leave about 3mm untouched around the edge... Now they say to use a small amount in the center and twist the cooler in place. Is this good enough?

No point in not following the instructions really. Small dab in the centre, let the heatsink spread out the compound.
The proper way to do it is to put a BB sized lump of stuff in the centre then just lower the heatsink down evenly and it'll spread itself out. Spreading it out yourself can create air bubbles and takes more time + its fiddly. Just do the dollop in the middle way.
I used the 7000Al-Cu cooler and i had it installed on both the blob and spread methods (about 6 months apart) and the temps were pretty much the same on both, if not better on the latter.
You shoulda done a 'search' theres like 100 threads about this btw.
Your on an XP, your meant to spread it out cause the core is exposed. With the p4s and a64s the core is hidden under a copper heatspreader so the dollop method works better.

I use a credit card to spread it over the entire core. I wouldn't dare not to spread it out because 100% of that core better be covered to be cooled properly
