im looking at replacing my gtx 260 (192sp) with something else after christmas, and im interested in eyefinity. How do the 6870 handle eyefintiy?

The monitors I would be using run at 1680 x 1050 each, im ok with not maxing every detail but Will I be able to run games like wow and newer shooters at atleast medium settings?

My 5770 played Black ops at medium settings on 5040x900 (20"x3) without any problem,
6870 have 50% better perform than 5770

My 5850 would handle 3 1680x1050 panels with no problems, so the 6870 should be just fine for your purposes.

I'm doing about the same as you, and so far I've had nothing but trouble. Don't forget that very few games actually work with eyefinity out of the box either (most require modification/hacks to get working correct), this includes the COD games and anything based on U3 engine, plus you'll have to be tweaking the FOV some (just for full disclosure - it's neat tech, but it's not 100% perfectly user friendly yet either).

Supposedly they do ok once you get them working - I'll let you know more after I get done reinstalling windows to see if I was having driver problems. Also, unless you have 3x DP monitors, expect that you'll need to get some dongle adapters

The 6870 is a good entry card into Eyefinity if you're looking to run medium settings. The only issue I ran into when I had my three monitor setup some games weren't compatible in Landscape mode but ran fine in Portrait mode.
This may seem minor but if you don't have IPS monitors, Portrait mode is going to suck big time becuase of color shifting with TN monitors.

Which games did you encounter issues with?

I ask because mine are TN screens, but can't do portrait mode.

don't worry. Most of games (that support eyefinity) are compatible in Landscape mode.
I don't have any problem with them. My monitors are TN too.
for Call of Duty, just use application like "Widescreen fixer" to fix it and It runs fine for me

Borderlands, Bioshock 2, NBA 2K11 are the games I had issues with.
You won't know until you fire up the game. When the game is severely zoomed in, switching to Portrait mode solves the issue.
Portrait mode is awesome anyway, I like it better than landscape.

I've always used IPS panels but I compromised with Eyefinity. Bought three TN panels. Never again. Switched to three IPS panels instead. You have to see the difference in person.

Oh I know, I just couldn't afford 3 IPS panels at the time :p

This has pretty much been my experience. Few games supported out of the box without work. Batman Arkham Asylum, Dead Space and Aliens Vs. Predator are the only ones I can think of. All the UE3 games pretty much don't work. The FOV is always screwed in those games even with the widescreen fixer, etc. To be honest I haven't tried to tweak them too much. The FOV is almost OK on Transformers War for Cybertron, but there is this odd missing texture issue.

It's badass when it works and a pain when it doesn't. Though you can drop back to a single monitor if need be. As for the dongles, I needed one. The passive kind only works up to 1920x1200. After that you need a dual-link active DVI to display port adapter.

Thanks guys, I play wow 80% of the time and I'm pretty sure that works well with eyefinity. As for my other games I don't mind a good fight to make them work if its worth it. I can get adapters for 20-30 dollars as my resolution isnt above 1920x1080.

Wow in landscape mode causes the 2 side screens to look a bit stretched and you can't change fov. Also the default scrolling combat text font will be HUGE. Wow in portrait mode is perfect though.

Borderlands actually made me sick to my stomach with the fish-eye effect when sprinting. I almost puked, and had to quit playing for a couple of hours.
