What's the simplest, most effective way of testing a video card?

My one month old computer is equipped with an X800 XT PE video card, which has handled everything I've thrown at it. Still, the games that I've thrown at it aren't exactly cutting edge: Neverwinter Nights, The Sims 2, Thief Deadly Shadows, Pacific Assault.

Having consulted a number of Windows tweak-guides for gaming, I made quite a few changes to the original Windows setup. I had no idea what I was changing, or even if the changes had actually done anything, and I'd like to benchmark my video card to see if I'm in line with what everyone else is getting out of their card.

Do I actually have to download some benchmark software, or is there a built-in benchmark somewhere in Windows?
