How do I set up my loop for leak testing?

Yes, I've still got MORE questions on creating a water setup :p

My understanding is that when I put my loop together, I should run it for 12 hours or so to test for leaks, with no components in the case. Now of course I would want to have the loop exactly how I want it prior to this, because having to disassemble it and change anything at this point would defeat the purpose of the testing.

My question therefore is how do I fit and set up my loop for testing, without having everything in the case, yet still having everything installed as it will be when I finally assemble everything? Is it as simple as installing the components and then removing them while leaving the loop intact? Will I even have enough room to remove everything if I leave the water loop in place?

Little help anybody? Thanks!

Set up the computer as if you were already water cooling. Then when everything has been measured to fit, remove all the computer parts. That way you won't have to do any extra measuring on your tubing etc.

I do my testing with the cooling and computer parts set up. If the computer is off, as long as I thoroughly dry the part there should be no problems and that's only if it leaks.

I was testing my loop and I had not pushed the tubing into a push fit all the way - the water started spurting onto my 9800XT. I turned the power supply off, took out the card and blow dryed it, then stuck it back in. The next day, when I started the comp up, it worked fine.
 
If you'd rather not deal with drying off components, set it up in your case, then extract the complete system intact for a wet run outside of your computer. (Kitchen counter always amuses the gf)! :p

Leak test it for at least 12 hours, if not 24 and carefully check every fitting and make sure you have those hose clamps installed tight and you should be good to go!

This is the way I did it when I switched to water cooling. I had an OLD 200 watt power supply from a desktop computer that I used to power up the pump. As long as you take your time to set everything up correctly you should have any problems unless the hardware itself is faulty.

I figured that running the pump with the power off to everything else would be okay, but forgive me for being leery about leak testing a water system with a couple grand with of gear in the case. I'm thinking it should be alot better if I cover everything in paper towels (will also serve a dual purpose by making leaks more visible).

Short of making another thread, I have a couple more questions... first of all, the case I am getting has a filter on the front intake fan, which I would like to utilize if possible, to minimize dust.

However, doing that would basically force me to install the rear fans on the rad as exhaust fans, sucking air out of the case and blowing onto the rad. Would that result in higher temps than putting the rad fans outside of the case blowing onto the rad and into the case?
 
are u cooling your gpu also?
i removed all my expansion cards when testing since there was no point in keeping them in the system for that. less components to get wet just in case there is a leak.
 
Yes I am watercooling the GPU

I'd like to do the testing with everything in the system or as much as possible, to make sure my clearances are fine. Of course I don't need everything in there, but a single hard drive, and maybe a single optical drive would give me a good idea. Wouldn't hurt to have my sound card in either
