How do I restore the Vista boot loader? (with other technical questions)

Here's what happened:

1) Installed XP
2) Made an image of XP partition (with Acronis True Image)
2) Installed Vista

All was nice. The vista boot loader was installed and I boot either operating system.

Then, like an idiot, I got a virus (avast! anti-virus caught it, but it still did some damage). I restored the XP partition but I seemed to lose the Vista boot loader!

I didn't restore the MBR or "track 0" (options in Acronis), so I think the MBR of the hard drive is still in-tact but I'm not sure how to re-install the Vista boot loader.

Also, are there any good articles on how Vista/XP is booted? Wikipedia has some decent information and says the MBR is the master boot record on the hard drive, but each partition can have a volume boot record (?). Is this true? If so, does the MBR always boot first and then allow certain paritions (eg. volume boot records) to be launched?

I'm also confused on the "active" and "boot" flags that a partition can have. Are these just so the program inside the MBR knows what to do?

Thanks for any help!!

I used easyBCD to make the Vista boot loader create an option for both XP and Vista.
