im new to overclocking intel and ive also never done a laptop what is the best way to do it there is no multiplyer or fsb adjustments in the bios either any ideas? guides? anything? im at a loss here its prolly very simple but i dont wanna hurt my laptop.

It's a bad idea to overclock laptops. Unless you plan to do some physical mods (extruding heatsink, watercooled), don't get your hopes up.

You have a pretty decent setup as is, if I were you, I wouldn't risk it.

Yea, OCing lappytops is bad news, they struggle enough to keep cool, no need to make it worse for the poor little thing.

alright seems to be the same reaction everywhere i just wanted to hit some high 3dmarks ttt

The way to look at performance is like this, if you want unmatched - extreme performance - get a desktop, start from a solid build, and go from there. Bigger cases = more cooling (generally). Laptops are used for portable performance. Even though there are a lot of them listed as being "desktop replacements" they aren't. Trust me, I had an XPS Gen1 - they arent exactly laptops because, well lets be honest, do you want a 140 degree piece of plastic sitting on your lap? And also, you don't have the ease of upgrade that you do in a desktop. Use your laptop as a mobile workstation/gamestation. You have an x1600 decent card - especially for a lappy. You have a good res screen, not insane pixel count like the 15.4 inch XPS Gen1 (1920x1200) but your still doing good. Laptops are for getting the job done on the go, not for owning everyone else who has the 3 grand and a desk.

:)

Yeah, laptops are space heaters as it is. My Dell 6000 get so hot I have to whip out the asbestos pants sometimes to set it on my lap. I say if you want the performance, dont look to a laptop. I used to be the same way, and its cool to take it with you, but seriously, how much WoW are you gonna play driving the 405 or sitting in a class or whatever.

Laptop performance is also VERY expensive. You can (a lot of the time) get a laptop for $3500 new, and have a handbuilt $1500 desktop whoop all over it. And that guy has enough left to pay is rent and bills.......see where im going???

Some lappys can be overclocked a safe moderate amount. It depends on the lappy though. Who makes it and what components are inside it. Some procs can be safely overclocked. Pentium M chips can be for example. Some video cards can be overclocked. Overclocking laptop RAM is a big no-no. Notebookforums.com is a good source for info on everything laptop. But I have to agree with the others overclocking laptops generally isnt wise even if it can be done. Do so at your own risk!

yes, it can be done in small ammts, but that gains are minimal, and at that point, what was the point??? In order to do a good healthy OC, your going to need an effective way to get rid of the heat. Thats why laptops are so restrictive, no space for cooling components....

On some Dell lappy's that have a 533 FSB you can do a small mod to make it run at 800 FSB, but that would void the warrenty and prolly wouldn't be worth it for the gain. I looked it up once for my Inspiron 6000 and decided instantly that it wasn't worth it.

my laptop gets so hot that i never actually set it on my lap. i have a light cutting board that is roughly the same size as my laptop and i use that when using it. So that way I can set it down on the carpet or the couch without having it melt.
