how do i overclock my computer?

why cant i overclock a gateway?

because gateway kindly removed the frequency-adjustment features from your motherboard. or, if you want to think of it another way, they didnt bother putting it in.

it's so people dont go crying back to gateway for tech support if they burn their chip.

next time either buy from an OEM who uses non-proprietary parts or, even better, build your own.

well the people at gateway tech support told me it was possible to overclock my gateway, but they wouldnt tell me because they do not support overclocking

Are there any FSB adjustments in your BIOS? If not, you probably have an unlocked PCI/AGP bus speed, meaning it changes with your FSB if you overclock, which is not a good thing. If you want to try to overclock anyway, look for CPUFSB on google, download it, and that should let you change your front-side-bus speed to overclock. Good luck :)

PS: If there aren't any front side bus adjustments in the BIOS, then the AGP/PCI bus probably isn't locked, and data corruption can occur. Might want to make some backups before you use CPUFSB.

i allready downloaded CPUFSB, my PLL is one of the only ones on intel that wont work.

well the people at gateway are full of shit. if its not in the BIOS and CPUFSB cant detect the PLL, YOU CANNOT DO IT.

your full of shit, i just overclocked my moms gateway. from 2.8ghz to 3.1ghz
and it took like 1 minute, i had to find out the PLL download
CPUFSB and overclocked it.

i just got it to 3.5ghz, but i then put it back down to 2.9 so i wouldnt mess up my moms computer.

proud day for you and your family.

yeah, but what are your temps? That computer is not performance cooled, its cooled by the quietest heatsink that will allow the chip to run at stock.

so even though it is overclocked, it wont go that fast? unless i have it performance cooled?

it will run until the processor heats up then as it heats up performance will start to deminish and then programs will run very slow possibly crash

then you have a choice

you either dial 9-1-1 after you realize the computer is on fire and let the pro's handle it or you can sit there and watch it burn with your mom hitting you in the back of the head with a wooden spoon

It will run that fast, but it will probably get too hot and die. You need good cooling to overclock anything by any reasonable amount, otherwise your chip dies of heatstroke faster thatn an 80-year old bald guy, standing naked in the sahara desert. (yes, I had to say that.)

That chip will die fast overclocked. On a related note, has anyone seen the 3.0E in these little minitowers? I saw an HP with a 3.0E in it and I touched the side panel; thing felt like a heating pad.
