How do i mod my taskbar?

a task bar is jsut a task bar why do you need to fuck with it?
wow... thread crap.... *rolleyes*

if you have an issue w/ modding a taskbar, keep it to yourself. some of us happen to not like our winbloze taskbars and want to mod it so it looks half decent.

think before you speak.

dude, thats not cool, you cant be here 4 years without knowing you arent allowed to insult other users

then that proves that you dont get wiser as you get older. now take your crap elsewhere and stop being a dick.

[ontopic] i personally use windows blinds for my desktop config. dont know if thats what you need, but i figure if im gonna have more than 1 post, id better contribute. :p

LOL tony montana... its kinda funny that you have nothing else to do than to be a dick on this forum ala this post ... surprise surprise, just look who the third poster is and with such an insightful comment.

What's wrong w/ wanting to change the way your shells look? Anyway, I also use WindowBlinds; not free, but it has worked great for me--currently using the Longhorn 5023 theme; I love it.

No you wont. take it from a member of the "Almost Banned" club. If Kyle or a Mod feeling [H]ard sees shit like that.... your 4th year is your last.

Gee, Tony Montana, you have lost all respect from me. Sorry, but keep up that attitude and I have a feeling that the future will be grim. :( Actually, a few days ago, I remember your rude comment about jenkins 'Paradise Lost' thread, quote; "If you have any asparations of being a graphic designer you should have known that. In PS click between the letter and press alt+ the side arrows and the letters by themself will move." Talk about in need for an attitude adjustment.

Sorry, end of rant. Now...

Check a few threads down or click here. You can use WindowsBlinds, which is not free, or StylesXP, which isn't free either (somebody please correct me if I'm wrong here), or you can (which I highly recommend) patch your UXTheme.dll. Google the term to learn more about it; basically when you patch it, you can use any .msstyle Style and would be able to select them in the basic Appearance tab in the Display properties.

i just think themese are super gay thats all and im not afriaid to say so :) why waste so much time making your compuer looks like OS X or something when its not? You guys have some weak insults :/

Tony Montana, if you've got nothing to add to a discussion, why post? Rather than attack a member for his own personal choices, some helpful advice would likely be appreciated.

For a while, I used StyleXP, but recently I've foudn that it contained / supported spyware. I haven't really found a good replacement, but I did download Windows Blinds last night. So far, I've been fairly impressed. Now I'm off to find some good themes...

while expressing your opinion is encouraged
when you do it like that its threadcrapping
since you have been here four years you know that

would have been real easy to answer the question or contribute useful information and then express you opinion
it also wouldnt have derailed this thread and gotten it reported

as far as the length of time someone is here being some magical shield
we call that old timers syndrome, its a fatal disease in approx 30% of the population :p

as mentioned to substantially alter the taskbar youd need a new shell
and I dont think this looks at all like OSX

made with litestep I think, a popular replacement shell one of many

Ice Czar, I'm not sure if he wants to go that advanced yet.. :p But, who knows. OP, if THIS is what you're looking for, def. give it a try.. :)

Well, the OP PM'ed me for help so I'd thought I'd post it here for anybody else to read:

Hey,
I saw your reply in the thread that I started about theming my desktop.

"DON'T get WindowsBlinds or StyleXP. They're just simply stupid. Why get a program that uses space, memory and leaves a footprint when you can simply patch UXTHEME.dll, stick the styles you want in a folder, and change them in the default "Appearance" tab in Display Properties?"

Could you help me with this..sorry, its still kind of confusing to me. I did download Window Blinds, however I think your probably right about this.

THe part I didn;t understand is "simply patch UXTHEME.dll, stick the styles you want in a folder"

Any help would be appreciated =/

Thanks.

It's confusing, yes.. but search Google for it. Here's the link to the tool you'll need the UXTheme Multi-Patcher (Neowin ) 4.0 Patcher here:: http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=308905 You can find pre-patched DLL's, but as they have never worked for me, I recommend to simply use the patcher.

After the file is patched, you place your Style's that you download in C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes\. Ignore the folder name "Themes" as it will only allow Styles in here.

Okay, I'm going to try and make this as clear as possible. Let's say you download a Style called BlackMesa_v1.2.zip. Unzip it keeping all folder structures intact. If the .msstyles file is called 'BlackMesa.msstyles', make a new folder called "BlackMesa" inside of \Themes.. It would be like this: C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes\BlackMesa. Remember that it is CASE SENSITIVE. So, if a theme is called "bLaCkMesA", you'd make a folder name called "bLaCkMesA".

Now, you'd most likely have a sub-folder called "Shell". This goes AFTER the folder BlackMesa. There may be additional subfolders after Shell for different variations of the Style. Inside of these folders would be a file called "Shellstyle.dll" You should NOT have to move these files anywhere or rename them at all. In fact, don't rename any file in this style at all. If you got a bunch of Shellstyle.dll's without subfolders, either you must have not unzipped it correctly or the original author did not zip it correctly. If I lost you, it would be like this: C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes\BlackMesa\Shell

Now go to Display Properties, select the Appearance tab, and click on BlackMesa in the drop down. Hit apply, enjoy.

Hope this helps!

well my customization has been purely W2K with just a touch of Linux
so XP specific possibilites I have no direct experience

another good resource would be virtual plastic
http://www.virtualplastic.net/
which covers alot of the customization you can do to with the windows shell

I just use the uxtheme hack, to make it look less like it was painted by a refugee from a mental institution that was doped up on too much happy pills. Experimented with shell replacement stuff before, geoshell was amusing but not entirely stable at the time (this was a WHILE ago and they'd mostly fixed it when I was still trying it out so I doubt it's a problem anymore). If I regularly used more than just XP I'd be tempted to mod all three to have the same GUI just for simplicity...

BTW special thanks to Tony Montana for reminding me that I have an ignore list in my CP. :D
