What earbuds?
Every pair of earbuds I've heard, even through non-amped line out jacks have been more than loud enough..

As for headphones, what's your price range & music preference?

I Would love to help you out, First things first whats your budget well get started there.

Have you checked to make sure the sound is all the way up?. Not just the volume indicator slider but in other parts of maybe the driver software. Maybe your shit is set to half volume in one part but the main volume indicator shows 100%

True but the OP could use a cheap upgrade i'm sure.

I got a pair of those and love them for the price. I'd recommend getting a pair of more comfortable ear pads, though; Stock ones hurt after extended wear.

Yes these are great budget headphones also.

I would also love to recommend the JVC HA-RX 700's but they are OOS everywhere save for the people charging $69.99 and more for them, Not that they arn't worth it just the are around $35 in stock.

Also love my JVC HA RX 300's Mine are spectacular minus the slightly uncomfortable head band, But I think mine where a lucky pair and that anyone else will more likely than not get a crap pair. At the $13 I got them shipped I doubt the QC is very stringent.

listen to mostly rock/metal, then the occasional dubstep lol
the games i play are like SC2, MW3.. but really havnt had time to play lately, but i will be playing D3 when ever it gets out

as for ear buds i have now, there just my gym ear buds nothing special,
but i really just want something nice about 120 on the amp, and 150 give or take for over the ear style headphones.

i did just bite on the steel series V2 sale they had, from 1saleaday, but i only got them because they where so cheap

The Monoprice headphones are really all I can recommend, since I've only ever bought those and a pair of Sound Blaster 3D Alpha headphones. The Monoprice ones blow the Sound Blasters out of the water.

Pretty good bass, which I what I was looking for.

o0o0 that is a really nice looking headset

btw what does the E7 do with the E9 i was looking at that earlier

The E9 is a dedicated headphone amp with no built in DAC, The E7 is a portible DAC/Amp just not as good of a amp. The E9 is a strong performer and the USB pass through on it only works with the E7 attached.

The one of the best amps for headphones is the O2 But its $144 with no DAC and it's not as spiffy as the Fiio combo.

Well with that budget I suggest the
Fiio E9 and E7 combo $179.95

Audio Technica ATH-AD700 Open headphones $107.30
These sound good with rock, Not sure about dubstep, I don't think it sounds good on anything :p
http://www.amazon.com/Technica-ATH-...S0XU/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1331191479&sr=8-6

For a total of $287.25

I can't recommend this combo. The amp/dac is totally overkill for the AD700 and he likes dubstep. The AD700 aren't exactly known for their bass, so that easily rules out the 700. I'd say he'd be better off spending more on headphones and less on amp/dac.

ATH-M50 are known to have more bass, but it's clean bass, not muddy.
$160

Here's the non-coiled cord version: $160

Fiio E10
~$80

He said he doesn't listen to dubstep often and the 700's sound spectacular with a lot of rock.

The point still stands that an E9/E7 combo is totally overkill for 700s. The ATH-M50 are better than the AD700 and the E10 is plenty to drive either of them. Better sound for less money is kind of a no brainer.

While the E7/E9 combo is quite fantastic , AD700's will simply suck for Dubstep period. I second the recommendation for the M50's (Sennheiser-HD25-1-II another great choice and a step above the M50 in my opinion is worth the extra $50 bucks) and the Fiio E10.

Unless he plans to really jump into the audiophile world than that setup will fit his needs well.

those sony headphones over the ear style? i really hate headphones on my ear, my ears get sore after an hour or so
