How do I make laptop keys glow?

I want to make the keys on my laptop glow. I was thinking EL Wire but does anyone have a Schematic that shows me the right way of wiring it up or does anyone hav a better idea.

Let me know. also move this to the correct section if im in the wrong area

PC Specs:
Compaq Presario V3000 CTO T
Intel Dual Core Duo: 1.6 GHZ T2050
1 gig of ram
80 gig HD
14.1 WideScreen
 
Won't you need keys that have the transparent letters, otherwise, you'll just have a backlighted keyboard w/o the keys showing.
 
You could try just buying coloured LEDs. I have no clue how to do this, just a suggestion on making it easier, EL wire would be like a more expensive method.
 
i got the elwire already. compusa was going out of buisness so i got everything cheap. elwire was like 1.50 or something like that. so i picked up about 20 packs and i got a ton of stuff for cheap... i got alot more things i want to do with it but right now i just want to illuminate the keys the safe way
 
My guess would wire it around the keyboard, like around the rectangle, then work your way in. How are you connecting this? Because I have no clue
 
thats what im geting at. how im going to wire it the safe way. i got the elwire were i want it. i just need to know how i can wire this without causing my laptop to fry..

i have 5 feet of the wire ready to go but the thing is it has a molex connector and i cant use that in my laptop. thats why i was asking how can i hook this up the right way.
 
Chances are you'll need to find a source of 5v electricity and buy a circuit that'll convert it to a higher voltage level, IE 12v...

This will drain your battery pretty fast...
 
thanks for the advice. i didnt think about how fast the battery will drain if there isnt some other source of power.

im going to try and get pics up. im going to mod this laptop, paint, leds just a bunch of stuff. im heading out now to see if someone at an elecronics store can help me.
 
It wont drain your battery very fast at all. I am not entirely sure about EL Wire, but LEDs consume very little power. You can consume more power simply by turning the brightness on your display up one notch.
