How do I install a 6800GT?

Doesnt look like there is AGP on that comp. Only PCI is available. Looks like your friend needs a new mobo and then he can get a 6800 GT into that comp.
 
hey he just asked me if he can return it (from newegg.com) and get one that will work for PCI?
 
Right now, you have to scrape under the barrel to even get a PCI, (not to be confused with pci-e), consumer level graphics card.. And it will not perform anywhere even near 6800GT levels.. He needs a new mobo to run a 6800gt.

eMachines are pretty proprietary. They're not really meant to be upgraded or changed all that much. They're like disposable PC's. Great for entry level computing and basic gaming, but not going to get too fast.

I don't think there is a motherboard that will fit into that box.

Better off just getting a new case w/ power supply and a new motherboard, and using the CD/DVD drive and HDD and doing it that way. That's what I'd do.
 
microATX? ok... any specific recommendation? so the 6800GT will work?
 
YOu might as well upgrade the motherboard, PSU, and CPU

That CPU is going to be such a bottleneck for such a card.

yeah i figured it would bottleneck. but wouldnt a new motherboard be enough for it to -work-.... i think he just wants it to be functional.
 
Get a chaintech microATX nforce 2 ultra 400 board, its around $50 on newegg, might also want to invest in a new antec power supply.

he should at least get a new mobo and psu. i doubt the psu that came with ur comp will be good enuff to power the vcard. i myself bought a emachine but then made some changes to it. it came with a 250 psu... so i doubt urs came with a higher psu.
 
I hope it fits in the case. Most pre-fabs don't conform to ATX. I was asked to help install a 6800 GT for a friend in his Dell and I ended up building him a new computer. ;)
 
not to sound rude or something, just to let you know that you made a HUGE mistake buying that 6800GT for that stupid emachine....a 2.6Ghz Celeron is a castrated pig ...even if you manage to change the motherboard, you need to worry about the powersupply........

I say, if you still can, return the 6800GT....if not, sell it on the forums.....they are probably still worth a lot.....

then get a Radeon 9100 PCI...that's the most reasonable card for that emachine that you can have for about 50 bux.....
