I would like to know how to format a hard drive? Could I erace spyware and adware from the hard drive to. Also would Microsoft allow me to reinstall my OEM windows XP disc for free?

to format a hard drive from XP, boot from the XP CD and enter the recovery console. You can format any drive from in there. Be careful, you'll lose everything on the drive.

Formatting will erase spyware. But if that's all you want done, try downloading a spyware remover (spybot search and destroy, or ad-aware).

Finally, as long as you're installing XP on the exact same computer it was originally installed on, you won't have any problems at all. If you've change some of the hardware since you last installed it, you may have to jump through a couple of (easy) hoops when you reinstall. But either way, it'll work.
