I havnt gone through and trouble shooted yet. but i just switched my computer back to liquid cooling. I have a rampage iii extreme mother board (used to have a P6T) But i put everything together and i let it get rid of the air bubbles and all that stuff. I then connected everything and tryed clicking the power button it turned on but the monitors wouldnt turn on so i didnt know what to do so i took it apart and reset the gpu block and took a can of air to it and tryed to clean it and i put it back together still the monitors wouldnt turn on. So i tryed using a diffrent pci slot. Still didnt work so i dont know what to do now. As of right now the specs for it are

So what do you think I should do? I thought of like baking the card. I think im going to try everyting with the new mobo (Its used) Before I put my P6T back in or should i just go back to that motherboard and see if i can get my monitor and gpu to work again? I think its the card cuz it doesnt even get warm though im not sure what to do...

Thanks guys

Is the video card plugged into your PSU? Sorry, have to ask because sometimes I forget to hook mine back up after working in my case and then nearly shit a brick when the video doesn't work.

I don't have a diffent card...

And yes it is plugged in. I checked that lol

What do I do?

Sorry been working on my computer for over 12 hours cuz I had a leak and had to start over and then now this is happening so I just want it to work lol

Is it possible that your water block is shorting something out on the card? I would try removing the block and turning the card on with no heatsink for just a few seconds to see if the video powers up. Then you'll know if your card is completely dead or not.

I had an issue a long time ago with a 7800 GTX where an aftermarket heatsink I had installed caused the video to not work at all when the computer powered up. When I removed the heatsink, the card worked, so the problem was obviously something with how I had installed the cooler.

Also, maybe it's possible your card expects to have a fan plugged into it, and since you're W/C'ing you don't have a fan and the card won't power up as a safety. I haven't heard of this with GPUs before, but I've had a couple of motherboards that bitch at me when not using a CPU fan, so it might be worth a shot.

Ill look into it I do have extra parts laying around for the gpu waterblock but I followed the step by step guide perfectly and I have ran the card without a fan before cuz it was on the same waterblock before and I would worry running it without the card for even 8secs would screw it up.. I could try the stock heatsink idk

I believe your waterblock may be shorting out the card. Some people over-tighten. Some blocks are simply troublesome. Especially the full coverage ones. Which IMO are the best. What I'd do is make it a point to try another card in your system. You may not have one as you posted but somebody sure does. You spent alot of money on your stuff so if necessary buy or borrow a low end pcie card simply to test. If it works then try putting your GTX 480 back to stock cooling and try it again. If it works try putting your Full cover block back on the card, tighten well but not too much. Alot of work but that's how it is sometimes.

Yeah ok I'll ask around and look to see if I can find one

I wondered if it was my power supply to but iv never had a issue with it.

can u ask any friend?

I'm 16 and don't know many friends that have extra cards sitting around only one and he lives way far away and idk if he has one or not but I'll ask.

Did you forget about me? Disregard the PM I sent you. I'll send you one to keep if time is not an issue.

Your right I have you cruzia and cav. Thank you.

I will try more troubleshooting tomorrow I was up til 3 last night working on him and then got up at 9 and been working on him to 9 at night so I need a break and some sleep. I wonder though if I could try my old motherboard. That would say if it was the new one or not right? Although that's a ton of work and time..

OK So I thinkk its the motherboard i took the waterblock and everything off the card plugged it in and the gpu got really hot but still no display in 2 diffrent pci slots and yes they are turned on the board...

I think im going to try to go back to the P6T and see if that works and if it doesn i know its my motherboard...

Anything else you guys can think of?

Thank you very much

dude don't ever run your gpu/cpu without a heat sink. you'll fry that thing in like a min doing that.

The other guy told me to? and i didnt leave it on more then 5seconds. But i figured out my issue talking to cav and i was looking at the manuel that board must have duel 8 pin cpu connects in order to boot and i only have one so i will have to wait until i get my ax1200 power supply in order to use that motherboard so i will put it back on the p6T for now until i get the 1200 in the next few weeks.

the other guy meant take off your waterblock and put back on teh stock HSF.
also if you have a asus rampage iii extreme, you don't need to have 2 8pin cables conected to mobo for it to boot. that is just for more power for OC'ing purposes.

I have the same board and only have 1 8pin cable and it works fine. so that is definitely not your problem.

ugh ok so what is my problem then?

In the book it says connecters with a s so i thought that meant i had to have both..

No error message beeps/lights from the MB? Tried running with just one RAM chip? Is the video card lighting up?

Sorry if you misunderstood me, I would never suggest running a card without a cooler. I said stock cooling which basically means the original hsf that comes stock on the card. Think about that for a second. A GPU like this can reach 100c WITH the stock cooler ON, imagine with no type of dissipation on the gpu how bad that could be. It could fry if you try and stress it with furmark or a demanding game. Anyway, no biggie I'm glad it's still okay.

I recommended running it bare just to see if the computer would post, and then turn it off immediately since that's where the problem is occurring. There would not be enough voltage or time for it to heat up and cook anything in post mode if you turned it off after a few seconds. Agreed, that running Furmark without any sort of cooling is a bad idea. Actually IMO running it at all is a bad idea because it is an unrealistic load.

Ok I just got home put it all together again powered on the red light by the CPU is on? Does that mean my CPU is shot?

I took it cleaned it and put it back together still red light on

Ok I put the old P6T in the computer fired right up and is working fine.... Ig ill return that mobo and have it replaced by asus.

bummer, well at least your video card is fine. :p glad you figured it out.
