How do I disable VGA?

I have a XFX Radeon 6870. Windows 7 OS

For some reason, my monitor flickers between "2 D-SUB NO SIGNAL" (VGA) with a blank screen and then back to normal DVI mode. It does this every 3-5 minutes and its annoying. HDMI and DVI mode worked fine with my LCD TV but not with my monitor (NEC 1770NX). Tried my old DVI cables and its doing the same thing. Never had this problem on my older rig.

My mobo is a MSI P67A-G43 and according to the specs there are no onboard video graphics. I really don't suspect its the video card. There's something here thats forcing my monitor to switch over to VGA for some reason. Any ideas?

I already tried putting the card in a difference pci slot. Still no luck.

I don't think it's the graphics card or mobo, it definitely has something to do with the monitor. Check to make sure multiple connections aren't on and that only the DVI/HDMI is plugged in.

It could very well be a faulty monitor.

It's not necessarily the monitor.

It could also be the computer. It might be that the DVI signal is lost for a few seconds, so the monitor tries to look for another signal (in this case, VGA, but it's not connected hence "D-SUB NO SIGNAL".

Try connecting your computer to another monitor over the same DVI and see if everything works fine. If so, it is the monitor's fault.

Are you running the newest version of drivers for you 6870? this could be an issue

Ya the 6870 drivers are up to date.

UPDATE: Ok so I pulled out my old rig which I should've thrown away a long time ago. I hooked up the monitor and DVI cable and lo and behold, the problem also happened with the old desktop. So now I suspect its either the DVI cable, monitor, or both.

Either way, I ordered a new LCD monitor (needed a new upgrade anyway) and hope that the problem goes away!

Ok, just tested out the new DVI cable from monoprice on both computers. Same "2 D-Sub no signal" problem. I really hope its just the monitor now.

I am receiving the new monitor later today and I wanted to pick it up, but the damn UPS guy who routes here during Thursdays and Fridays doesn't even bother doorbelling at all. I guess he just throws the deliveries to his other co-workers that work M-W.

Yeah, it's definitely a problem with the monitor then. Just get it replaced and you'll be fine.
