How do i create local datastore?

Sorry if i'm asking a stupid question. But i'm new to esxi. I've installed esxi 5.0 on a thumbdrive which was lying around. And i have a spare 1TB hdd which i want to use to store my VMs. So how do i go about it creating a datastore using that 1TB hdd?

And also would i be able to access my other harddisk (movies,music etc. all house into 1 computer) from my Virtual Machine?

Your help would be greatly appreciated! thanks!
 
okay i've figured out how to create a new VMFS. And i created Ubuntu vm. So how do i enable Ubuntu to detect the other harddisk that is on the same computer?

I'm new to this too, it's actually not that hard. I can make some screen shots for you if you want ?

Click the home, then click inventory, then along the top click Configuration, under that in the middle you will see 2 tabs Data Store & Devices,

Click Data Store, then on the right side, click add Storage, then follow the wizard.

The one problem i had was i just stuffed a 250 gig into mine, esxi saw it but could not use it because of some weird partition problem. I removed the drive and removed all the partitions on it powered esxi back on and followed what i just explained above and all worked well :)

Thanks! i manage to create one datastore :) Now the problem is how my vm(ubuntu) going to access my other drives that is on the same box.
 
Either create datastores on those drives or if you can pass them thru (not likely unless you have vt-d).
 
thanks! looks like i need to get a mobo with VT-d or build another box just for storage.

Which would you recommend ?
