How do I bump up my cpu speed in linux, IS it code---

./FAH-Linux.exe -verbosity #?

if it is, It acted funny when i bumped it to 8 ( 9 being the max )

folding is only taking up 5% of my cpu, since its a dedicated folding box , i want to bump it up

thanks-\\\

The -verbosity switch only changes how much gets writen in the log file.

To change how much CPU time F@H gets you need to restart it with the -config switch.
This time when you get to how much CPU time to give it ( 5%-100% ), set it to 100%.
Then once it starts folding at 100% remove the -config switch as you wont need it again.

Luck......... :D

thanks, but it didnt show me an option for CPU time
I even went into advanced settings, I did get a core priority ( idle/low) [idle]? i picked low ( higher clock speed? )

Higher core priority. It means the core wont slow down as readaly/ much when other processes need CPU time.

The next line down is CPU useage requested (5-100) [100]?...... That the line which alters how much CPU time the core gets. Leave at 100.

Luck......... :D

if all goes wrong with folding itself, try something like "renice +5 `pidof FahCore_78.exe`".

luck m8.

no option for cpu speed. On the other boxen running windows they all run 100%
I use gkrellm to monitor my cpu speen on linux. Its still very very low

what does 'top' show? FAH may not show up properly on gkrellm... i just use top to show what's going on. you may also want to read through the client.cfg file and see if it mentions anything in there.

ok on Kgrellm the cpu cycle shows low ( 2-5%)
but the screen ( in the cpu box ) fills up with green color when i run F@h. however i can still see the cpu line graph bumping up and down to a max of 5%

On my boxen I do not change the advanced options,
it is ./fold/FAH502-Linux.exe -forceasm -advmethods
then user name
team33
ask /no
proxy/no
allow reciept/ no
change advanced options/no

you will need to use the -config flag to change the options
try that and see what happens

ok I put in your flags and it did what you said it would do.
then I put in the -config flag and it came up with the same options ( no cpu core speed)

so I tryed all 3 flags at the same time, the only difference I see now is the Extra SSE boot is on now
see code

Executable: ./FAH502-Linux.exe
Arguments: -forceasm -advmethods -config

Warning:
By using the -forceasm flag, you are overriding
safeguards in the program. If you did not intend to
do this, please restart the program without -forceasm.
If work units are not completing fully (and particularly
if your machine is overclocked), then please discontinue
use of the flag.

I dont know it that fixed it, what do you think? edit ------- man my box sure didnt like that. It stopped folding. I had to restart without the flags

j00 try renice? it requests a higher priority for those processes.

it may take a minute to get started, have you let it actually go through an entire frame?

Linux gives you direct access to all the guts of the OS.

The manual program 'man' has some help on just about any program you install with a package manager. So you ought to be able to 'man renice' to find out how to use the program. What renice does is modify the priority of a process.

But my concern is what IS using those cycles. In a term window type the 'top' command to see what resources the top processes are using. You might also conceivably have a problem if you're running low on ram. Dunno. The 'top' screen should show you how much memory is being used.

If you're running Linux you need to get comfortable with the command prompt in a terminal, or console, window. Also it's worth getting one of the O'Reilly books on Linux system administration.

Luck!

. found out what was causing it, was a false read from kgrellm. Damn thing, I booted it and re-installed. looks ok now. sorry about the stupid thread.

'sok. I made Plenty of stupid threads when I started linux too  :D

you get better.
