How do I auto login on Windows 10?

I have a Surface Pro 3, and I just upgraded to Win10 from Win8.1. I used to have to login with my password when I rebooted or when I turned it on, but not when I was just waking the device. Now, every time I wake the device, it prompts me to enter the password. Irritating, I think, but I can fix that. I went to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in Options and chose 'Never' prompt me to login after I've been away. Hooray! Except that it did nothing at all.

OK, I think, let's get more aggressive. I open a Run window, type 'netplwiz', and uncheck the box that says 'Users must enter a username and password to use this computer.' Hit apply -- hooray! Except that it apparently still did nothing at all.

My computer is prompting me to login whenever I boot or reboot it, and most of the time (but not all, so there's some kind of timer) when I wake it up from sleep. Any suggestions? I'm using a local login, not an MS/Live login.

netplwiz takes care of boot login. if you want to change behavior during resume, it's under the advanced power settings (like what you get when you are setting sleep/hibernate times).

This isn't an answer to your problem as it looks like you've done all the steps I would have taken. But it is a workaround to shorten the amount of time it takes to login. You won't have to bring up your virtual keyboard to type in your password.

Use a picture password with a really simple gesture. Since you auto login I'm guessing security isn't a concern.
