How do I access hard drive with different user account?

So my girlfriends computer got some nasty virus and I'm trying to back up all her pictures and documents. I hooked it up as a slave but most of her pictures were in a folder on the desktop but when I try to access that portions of the hard drive access is denied. I have the user name and the password for that account. Is there anyway I can gain access. Thanks.
