how do i access files that deny me access?

i know a file exists and i need to back it up (my firefox bookmarks), but it won't let me access that folder (c:\documents and settings/*my profile* ) and anything in it

The profile directory is given rights only to the associated account and administrators. I'm guessing this is either a new profile on the PC or a new load, and you are grabbing things out of the old load.

Either way, you need to grant yourself rights as administrator. Simply logging in with admin right will allow you to copy the bookmark file out of the directory if this is a new profile, or take ownership if it's a new install. Good luck.
