How components have progressed.

Hey guys, I've been out of being a computer enthusiast for a while now and was hoping someone could give me a quick update.

Last I remember, they were barely coming out with Opterons.

So I was just wondering, what has been the progression of PC components as far as:

Athlon XP 3200+ and Intel 3.2 Ghz processors and beyond,
ATI Radeon 9800XT and nVidia GeForce 5950 and beyond?

So just wondering where things have gone from then, and what order they started coming out after these products. Like in what order did the AMD FX and 64 come out? I would be most grateful.
 
The FX is just a high end version of the 64. In AMD terms, you have their mainstream lines and then the Opterons meant for workstation use and they have more cache. The big change in both has been dual core processors. Basically, you have two chips in one. AMD still has the FX. They cherry pick their production lines for the highest running chips and leave them unlocked. Intel has a bunch of chips too, but they've changed their naming such that it's impossible to know what their chips do.

In terms of video cards, ATI once again has the better image quality although the nVidia chips run a tad faster and much, much cooler. They're all too expensive now.
 
So is that it? There's nothing more really?

What about video card lines, what exactly came out? I notice the 7000 series from nVidia, but was there much of a 6000 series? how about ATI, they went from 9800XT to X800 or something?
 
they came out with many cards in the 6000 line, as many as the 7000 line, heck there still making the 6000 line, except 7600gt will take the 6600gt's spot, the 7900gtx takes the 6800ultra spot, 7900gt takes 6800gt spot, etc.
