i've completed a cooler that manages ~-40c, but its not cold enough, how cold can these chips handle before permanent damage occurs? i'm thinking in the range of -100c for the next project...

The boiling point of LN2 is -197C.

Its not the low temps which kill chips.
Its any sudden large tempature change.

So -100C should be ok once you hit a steady state.

Luck.....:D

My cpu ran in the -60c's. When it got to close to -70c it would crash the PC.

Some cpu's may differ, but that was my experience on a xp1600 on a abit mobo.

I must add, that cold is overkill, not really needed, but is good for bragging rights!

do you know how a cascade refridgeration system works?

Thats what the person with the highest 3dmark03 uses for cooling.

It'd be nice if someone sold chips that were specifically made to run at < -60C. Maybe they could use superconductors and such inside :)
