I got my Dell XPS refurb in. I swore it said 3.2Ghz P4 Extreme Edition 800mhz FSB 2M cache in the description when I bought it, but I can't verify that anywhere now that I have it.

This is what it says for processor and assembly on the packing list

1 P3156 PROCESSOR, 80532, 3.2G, 2MB, NORTHWOOD
1 R3681 BASE (ASSEMBLY OR GROUP), TRANSFORMER METROPLEX DESKTOP, 3.2, PENTIUM 4 NORTHWOOD, XPS-G2, 800, 2M

How do I tell if it is a P4 Extreme Edition Processor?

Thanks,
gordon

thanks!

sweet... it is a P4 EE

This was the deal I got

XPS Gen2
3.2Ghz P4 EE
Dual 250Gb SATA HD's
1Gb RAM
ATI 9800XT
XP Pro
MS Office 2K3 SBE

$1682 plus tax

is that a new EE? check task manager how many CPU graphs are there :)

thaqt wouldn't be a new EE.. everything else in there is old.. not old.. but yeah.. old.. ddr, not ddr2.. 9800xt instead of x800 or 6800... its a refurb.. so someone probably used it for a while.. something crapped out.. and they shipped the whole thing back in.. and got it replaced with somehting else..

anyawys.. still a steal at that price.. you should put that EE in a board that will overclock though.. i highly doubt you can OC on a dell mobo.. otherwise it is kinda a waste of an EE...

Cool, I'll consider rebuilding the system with the parts. I am not too crazy about the case either. It registers as two processors, so there are two processor graphs in the task mgr.

Old is relative... :) It is a pretty significant upgrade for me. I was running an Athlon XP 2000+ on a Soyo KT-333 mobo w/radeon 9800 np prior. That is going to be my HTPC now. I know it isn't new, but it was half the price of something similar new (from Dell anyways).

Thanks!

stick a celeron in the old case/mobo/psu and sell it one ebay haha... someone would buy it just for the case so they could say they had an xps.. you might be able to reuse the psu.. but dell psus are usually proprietary...
