I found myself some old audio gear my parents had hidden in a closet and I am wondering if I can get the sub connected and playing nice with my M-audio av40s.

I know that connecting active monitors to an active sub can be problematic but I'm no expert so I'm turning to you guys for some advice.

Right now my setup is just ht striker > M-audios. I'd like to keep the receiver out of the equation for conveniences sake, turning on 3 devices just to get sound is rather annoying.

you need a line out converter to attach the AV40 to your AVR speaker outputs

AVR Front Level Out to CONVERTER to AV40 Line In
AVR Subwoofer Out to W303 Line In
you may also want to set your AVR to: Front - small, Subwoofer - yes and adjust the W303 CutOff as appropriate

As stated, those pictures are way too large!

I wouldnt use line out unless there are 2 you can connect to that respond to the volume level (1 for the speakers, 1 for the sub).
This is because line out sources saturate easily, affecting the sound when hooked to two inputs in parallel.

Get an adjustable high (speaker) to low level (line level) converter and hook that up to the speaker output from the amplifier.
Use the subs controls to set the cutoff frequency and volume level.
(The adjustable converter will control the input gain, play something with a lot of bass and turn this up until it starts to distort and then back it off about 20%)

Something like this will work very well and is less than £3.

There are tons of different ones, search for
high low level converter
or
impedance converter
