How best to minimize this bottleneck?

    8700k and 1070. In games, GPU usage is anything up to 99% (at which point FPS hits a brick wall) and CPU hovers around 20% and never goes over 30. RAM at 2133, 2666, or 3000 makes no difference. GPU overclocking helps some, but gains are small and this card artifacts at anything over +70 core and +120 memory.

    I've been wanting a Vega56 or 64 so I can take advantage of FreeSync, but I wonder if I would run into the same issue. Would a Vega64 alleviate some of the bottleneck, or is it worth waiting for the next generation of cards?

    What resolution and framerate are you playing at?

    We're at the point where high end gaming is limited by the GPU, not the CPU so it's not surprising that GPU usage is a lot higher than CPU utilization. The 8700k has 6-cores and 12-threads so most games are going to be unable to use it fully.

    I would wait for the next generation of graphics cards if you feel performance is lacking.
