How Bad Is Your Tech Stock Doing?

Here’s a handy little list of tech stocks and how they are currently performing. Intel and AMD are both down a few percentage points, Dell was up a few points after a bad day and Seagate remained unchanged. Things could be worse.

Let’s take a stroll through the carnage that was today’s stock market. Keep in mind that the Nasdaq Composite was down nearly 5%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell about 4%. So if your favorite stock was down 5% today, well, that’s about in line with everything else.

So far this morning, all my stocks are posting green. Hopefully the trend will continue throughout the day.

AMD: 4.99 +.09
GOOG: 428.03 +13.54
INTC: 18.79 +.24
JAVA: 7.93 +.13
MSFT: 24.63 +.06

I, the savvy vulture investor I am, pulled my money out of AMD last Thursday at a .40 loss, and put it all in gold deliveries@ $783.50........look at me now Scrooge McDuck!

I got rid of my stocks over a year ago, unsafe territory.

I'm doing awesome with my short positions right now! Techs are getting slammed but so is everything else.

Better question would be "How Bad Is Your STOCK Doing?" :)

Friend of mine put a limit order for AAPL at $122 yesterday and it executed today while closing at $134. Bastard, I never thought it was going to execute so fast! :)

What are you in those at, if you don't mind my asking?

Shorts have just been nuked in the UK, something similar may follow in the US.
The 10's of billions being injected on both sides of the pond are sure to pick the market up tomorrow :)
Nice move.

Outlawing naked shorting is totally logical. Selling something you or your broker doesn't own is just plain bad.

Outlawing shorting of specific stocks period is completely asinine. Short selling has been around since the beginning of the stock market and is an essential counterbalance to extreme runs in price, preventing potential bubbles.

Here's a clue as to why financials have tanked. It isn't because shorts drove it into the ground, it is because the companies that are being shorted have balance sheets that suck and have been selling worthless paper to investors overseas and need to be bailed out by the government. If that's the underpinning of your business, people want to sell your worthless stock, it is very simple! At any point, Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, George Soros, any individual or investment company could have loaded up on these stocks at a discount price, but absolutely nobody wants a part of them.

Blaming financials' downfall on short sellers is the worst excuse I've ever heard, almost as bad as blaming the run on oil on speculators and low supply/high demand. Here's your hint there: its the dollar. Look at the charts for UUP, USO, and mark down the dates where the Fed dropped interest rates and infused more capital into the market (ie - printed money). Oil skyrocketed on a dollar that tanked and didn't stop until the Fed stopped cutting rates and made a very strong policy statement against inflation.

The stories and scapegoats that get tossed by the governments and the media in order to deflect blame from the real culprits are almost as ridiculous as the financial institutions and policy makers that allowed this house of cards to be built up in the first place.
