I'm not trying to gloat, but I am looking for an "adda-boy" (I hope). :) This is my most successful overclock, one that I have kept the longest. In the past, I reverted back to stock before long. And this is the first aftermarket CPU cooler I've ever purchased (Corsair A50). Both of these things have been in play for long enough now for me to consider it all settled. This screen shot shows my lowest idle temp and the highest temp my computer reached for the day (I shut down every night). The high peak was reached by playing Dragon Age. I could have tortured it more, I know, but that's not real world on my computer. This is.

P.S. Overclock is from standard 2.4GHz to 3.0GHz. Typical of my processor, I know. But I'm pleased despite the lack of uniqueness or elite feeling.

They look fine. Limit temps on Intel chips is around 100 C I believe.
 
thats fine, friend of mine still has his velocity micro promagix e something or another with the q6600 and it peaks out at like 60C
 
Those are great temps. Push to 1.35 and enjoy 3.4-3.5 GHz (up your mch voltage as well)
 
My high peaks used to be in the 60's and 70's with the OEM cooler, so this is a tremendous difference compared to that. And I wasn't overclocking before either.

Prime running overnight is fine. I did that test a couple months ago.

I don't know what else I should adjust at this point to get a higher clock. If I simply increase the multiplier, I lose stability. I know there's something with the memory voltage I need to tweak, but I don't remember the details. I'm not exactly looking to achieve a higher, stable overclock. But if I could, that would be sweet.
 
Decrease your ram ratio, so that you stay reasonably within spec. Increase your FSB to about 370-380 which will yield about 3.33-3.4 GHz. This way, you can set your ram divider to 2:1, and you will only lose 40-60 MHz, which doesn't mean anything in terms of real world performance, and raise the MCH voltage to compensate for the higher FSB.
 
Afternoon all, ive just purchased the A50 cooler to use with a Q6600 oc'd to 3.4. My pc (same as sig) is running consistently hot (idle in the 50's). I was going to just re-paste and re-seat my current HSF but i've decided to move the old one to another comp and replace with the A50.

Before i install i've a question:-

The installation instructions show a pea sized blob of Thermal paste/material being placed in the centre of the cpu but there's no mention of wether it needs spreading out across the surface before the heatsink is installed on top. Do you need to spread the paste or does leaving the pressure of the heatsink itself to spread the paste do a good enough job? Never installed a HSF with a pipe base, they've always had a flat plate like the Zalman 9500 im currently using. Will the paste not just get stuck in the groves between the pipes and not get full coverage?

I will be using Arctic Silver 5. Thanks for any help.
 
I used AC5 too. You do not spread the paste yourself. Just do the same thing as you do with an OEM HSF. Put it on and rotate it back and forth a couple times.

By the way, my new record for low temperature is 16°! I'm confident your temps will drop 20°.
 
Cheers 014, i'll post my temps after the swap see how they compare to yours.

What programs are you using to record the your results? CoreTemp? RealTemps? Speedfan? Everest?

EDIT: Forget the above question, i see your first post shows you're using CoreTemps :)
 
It doesn't really matter what temp monitoring program you use, they all read from the same sensors.
 
my idle temps are always about 1C above ambient air outside of the case. friends never drops below 40C regardless it never gets above 60C
 
I used the All CPU Meter gadget which can display Core Temp readings.

My room temperature was a bit lower than normal when I reached my lowest idle temperature.
 
Ok, A50 is installed.

Idle temps are now around 33C to 37C down from high 50's.

Load temps I gave Prime 95 a quick blast on all 4 cores and the temp rose to low 60's.

My ambient room temps usually a fairly toasty 20-25C so i dont think those temps are too bad considering there's a 1ghz overclock on the cpu too.

Only problem is...the A50 is too tall for my Coolermaster Praetorian case. So im having to 'modify' the side panel so i can put it back on. Should have checked dimensions before buying i guess. ;)

That stinks. I have a Cooler Master case too, but I have the HAF932. The A50 is very large. I took a picture of it once next to my 13" MacBook for scale. But once it was installed in my case, it didn't look big anymore.
 
the A50 is big i have one myself its a good cooler but i got a good deal on a H50 so i am going to give that a try. and yes your temps are fine.
