How Apple Users React To Every Apple Announcement

And did you really compare PowerShell with a Unix command prompt? Talk about drinking the Kool-Aid.

Talking about making uninformed statements!

I actually work as DevOps and the combination of T-Sql + PowerShell + .Net Libraries + C# is extremely powerful to manage an enterprise environment

Heck even VmWare adopted powershell to manage ESX (look up PowerCli)

yes the old DOS console was a joke compared to bash, modern PowerShell is a different story

Some of you have some serious disconnect and twisted views of the world.

Tech is apart of people lives, as is their family, kids, jobs, other things to enjoy etc. There lives aren't about tech.

They don't sit in their parents basement and masterbate to the anti steve jobs statue like it seems some people do.

Get a grip on reality, understand the real world and global market.

As someone said, even your god Google has 50k macs deployed.

It's more fun watching [H] live in their delusion of Apple users.

As a person who is directly responsible for many millions of dollars e-commerce, I am quite interested in each individual browsers performance and to call Safari mud slow really is not an informed statement.

In terms of getting work done, I can get more done with the terminal program on a mac then most windows users can as a whole. OS X is *very* power user friendly, unlike windows 8's UI for dummies. Windows 8 is a joke for working on 4 or 5 programs at once on multiple monitors, which in my job simply is a necessity. Trust me, when it's time to make money and get it done, OS X is where it's at...

How is calling it mud slow not an informed statement? He said its based on personal experience. Do you need browser benchmarks or something?

Delusion ... really ... i think we have quite a few specimens in this thread already .... did you somehow miss the uniformed statements claiming that the Microsoft environment is utterly inferior

fact is anyone that does any development on a Microsoft environment knows how good the tools are

You don't seem to have any people skills, otherwise you would understand why they say what they say. Something crazy called marketing, I suggest you look it up sometime.

Well that didn't take long for a disagreement in opinion to turn into a baseless personal attack :D

Loved the bit about tucking in their shirts... was this guy for real or an actor?

Ya gotta love these Apple Stories and the forum comments.

It's like farting in an elevator full of Neurosurgeons. It just gives everyone another reason to stick their nose up in the air :)

Troll thread day! lol

How Non Apple fans react to any Apple news..love it every time
Thanks Steve or whoeverr , you king of teh Trolls :)

Xbox sucks .... no playstation suck
Nvidia sucks ... no ATI sucks
Apple sucks ....

Same old .... same old. Please die in a fire.

So let me get this right? I didn't read any articles just these comments. So apple is trying to do what microsoft is doing with win 8 trying to make the mobile and desktop platform the same. And people are praising apple but they still think win 8 sucks?

Correct...but when Apple does the same it's new, magical and inventive. Everybody else just copies. I see the force field is strong as ever...good for entertainment. :)

they're not trying to "make them the same."

No way ... a guy on the internet said that Google has 50k macs ... by default it must be true
heh https://www.usenix.org/conference/lisa13/managing-macs-google-scale

Believe it or not there is a world outside of IT and/or mom's basement, where normal people use computers to do normal things and don't give a shit about whether a marketing department called something magical or amazing. These people have jobs, and have families, and have better things to do than invent a caricature of someone who likes something they don't. These people may own apples or may own PCs or maybe even both, but most importantly they are not insufferable.

You should really praise BSD unix because that's what OS X is a copy of. And, for correction when it's time to make money and get it done it's Linux and BSD because no servers, network equipment, appliances, etc. run on OS X.

It's like an alternate universe where adding transparency effects to a menu in 2014 is considered innovation and draws applause.

Apple-related cognitive dementia is a condition in which the patient becomes peripherally blind to any and all technologies outside of Apple, which the patient reflexively ignores until the Apple corporation decides to either copy it or include a similar version in its products (USB, PCI/e, x86, IDE, etc.). Ironically, the condition strikes primarily younger, less-experienced human males, but fortunately is rarely seen in older, experienced people. Most psychiatrists believe it to be a mostly treatable condition which disappears with the onset of maturity. Mostly.

You realize that Google has 50k Macs deployed, yeah? Everyone I know at Google and in Silicon Valley that does programming for the web does it on a Mac.

To talk about OS X relatively low marketshare when it is still extremely important is totally missing the point. Windows is obviously important in enterprise but there's more to life than a clerical operating system.

And did you really compare PowerShell with a Unix command prompt? Talk about drinking the Kool-Aid.

Yay, Google, the Eternal Beta Company has a bunch of Mac hardware to play with to make sure their web apps are compatible with the marginals.

Whoopty-freakin-do.

Is there more to life than a clerical OS? Sure.
Name just one thing you can do (a task, not a specific program) that you can perform on a Mac that you cannot do on a Windows machine.

Basically there ARE none. You can do pretty much everything you can on a Mac box on a Windows box. All you're arguing at that point is "look and feel". Maybe, what you think of as "easy" or "intuitive" isn't necessarily so for others.

IMNSHO, the desktop experience on Mac has been severely crippled for years unless you want to drink their Kool-Aid (or dual-boot Windows). Not to mention the fact that Apple not only CAN'T support enterprise implementations, they don't WANT to. So if you want to run a network of Macs, you better have some Linux/BSD/Unix experience so you know what tools you'll be using to manage them. Otherwise, you're SOL.

God dammit you guys are angry with Apple.

No. The anger burnt itself out long ago (approximately 30 years or so). It's pretty much just a generally high level of abject disgust now.

I still don't understand why designers insist on doing their work on Macs.

and believe it or not ... it seems that you utterly failed to see the point of my post

furthermore the irony of your post is off the scale ... you actually try to typecast me for supposedly typecasting mac users

btw i lived in 4 countries, speak fluently 4 languages (3 daily at work - love multinational environments) and I'm quite a successful IT contractor but hey if you prefer to think that I'm lying and I'm some sort of stereotypical loser based on a few posts then enjoy your fantasy :) You know.... whatever helps you sleep better at night

God dammit you guys are angry with Apple.

I think its just mostly people are sick of their bullshit lies and misinformation, they make out like they invent everything and they they came up with it first. Pretty much everything they released with iOS 8 its already available to other OS yes every windows phones do it already. They are just playing catchup and selling it as new and innovation.

I won't get into my favorite shell zsh (it even has bash emulation), but the most commonly used environment on various *NIX distributions by default is some form of Bourne. There is no Kool-Aid being drank here by that poster, because you really CAN compare the two.

I would say you can't exactly compare the two. The reason being is that Windows is Windows and *NIX is *NIX. What I mean by that is that the problems and benefits of each OS extends to it's CLI.

Powershell's scripting ability is excellent. Then it again it ought to be since bash is older than it by decades. Powershell's remote management I would say is probably second to none, even against Linux to a degree. That's because remote management on the scale that Windows can muster hasn't been really a *NIX or Linux strong-suit.

However, Powershell falls down right where the environment itself does. It's limited by OS Version and Type. It's also limited by the programs that support it. These limitations aren't really a problem for *NIX and they really are not a problem for Linux. Actually more accurately the problems manifest themselves differently within each OS.

For example (yes this is extreme but the process itself I assure you happens all of the time) we're going to take a server that's running the Linux kernel 2.6 32-bit and we are going to do an in place upgrade to kernel version 3.11 64-bit via command line. Oh and before the server just did file shares but during the install we are going to make it a SMTP relay as well. In Windows this would be like upgrading from Windows NT/2003 32-bit to Windows Server 2012 R2 64-bit w/ Exchange without rebooting while all of the old services stayed online. Linux sure. Windows? No just No.

A kernel, an environment and a shell are all different. You can update Windows via command line, you can update it headless with just the core installed, in fact. If you stick with IIS, certainly you're going to have dependencies in the way, but let us compare apples to apples here and run Postfix on both boxes for SMTP relay... It'd be the same replacement process. As far as upgrading without booting -- that too is a third party example for Linux using Ksplice (or the legacy l-kexec). Of course you'll have to reboot, and get rid of the HAL for hardware manager remapping to get Windows to even run (that is what the installer upgrade is basically doing), and in the case of using Exchange it relies on core runtime libraries. You could make a comparison for Linux that those runtime libraries are a major revision difference for libc. Ever mismatch symbols on a compiled libc before? That requires beyond a reboot to fix, because the environment basically borks itself and unless you compiled your entire binary chain static, you're pretty much screwed until you resolve those ld dependencies manually or somehow manage to move compatible binaries in before your seg faults start happening even on pressing enter.

But we're getting off track here to the post. OS X and Windows both require reboots for updates because of semaphore locks and library compatibility issues that extend from that. I'm unaware of any BSD project currently that is making unload/load kernel in place a reality, and I think it is because of the usefulness of virtual environments superseding the need for it. High availability replacements deployed from a staging environment with almost no down time seems to be the norm these days. OS X's kernel is also a Mach derivative rather than classical BSD.

Something else that Apple lacks in foresight -- you can only virtualize OS X, inside of an OS X host with support as far as I know. KVM and HyperV do not have that limitation.

I don't mean to bash OS X so much, I like it quite a bit for day to day tasks like reading forums, writing E-Mails and writing scripts (Sublime Text 2 is nice), but it is by no means a complete environment I could work in, nor host critical services under, unless I was an iOS and OS X developer exclusively. There are too many gotchas involved, even with something like Brew for a package manager to import third-party software for cross-compiling.

Because it looks call and its "in".

No, because of the ease of use, stability and not having to put up with typical Windows problems. OSX apps are often designed superior in their user interface and usability compared to their windows counter parts.

I never understood why people rave about Macs either untill I was literally forced to use them through work. I was 100% windows back then, now I use Mac and linux dominantly and very rarely run Windows and even then mostly in VM.

Every time Apple announces a feature, it seems like they remove another useful feature (see: Server, and what a piece of crap it is compared to Snow Leopard for configuration)

OS X is leaps and bounds higher RAM requirements for doing the exact same day to day tasks. Web browsing sucks on a Mac, it's mud slow even with Firefox. The only polish it has is a UI that gets in the way of actual work. But hey, at least it's pretty? Windows 8.1 performs better on my MacBook for everything but battery life.

Well said. I use 8.1 on my Home PC, I use 8.1 RT on my tablet and I use 8.1 on my phone. I love them all. If anyone wants to cry about 8.1 being different then install Classic shell and stop your bawling. That's why so many people love apple. Despite apple's claims for "change and innovation" nothing ever changes and since the majority of people are afraid of change, they cling to Apple.

No need to change something that just works. MS then again is desperate to reinvent itself for reasons only they know.
