How am I doing points-wise?

I started folding in July, I now have nearly 10,000 points, 9,946 to be precise. I disconnected from SETI@home about a week ago and my PPD, not surpisingly, shot up a great deal. On my computer(specs listed below), I'm get on average somewhere between 250 and 300 PPD. Is this good/bad/average? I only have the big unit flag on without advmethods.

I'm thinking about picking up a PowerMac G5(dual), so I'll definitely bring that on board. I'm also thinking about a Radeon X1900XTX for a video upgrade, and also for Folding@home when/if the GPU client is released. The big reason for the video upgrade is to see me through to this time next year when I build my next system.

What do you have your 170 clocked at? stock? And it really depends on the work units you're getting. Right now I've got two 600 point gromacs and way more than 300 ppd. I wouldn't go with an ATi card right now unless you really can't wait. I'd rather build a core 2 duo machine, overclock it, and use it only for folding instead of getting the video card.

Oh, oh I'd wait another couple weeks and see what the GPU client can really do. See how all that is going to pan out before you buy anything. No matter how things work out we want the most research calculations done in the long run - waiting could have an impact. I don't think that a Core 2 can even touch a X1950XTX with folding power. We'll see how things go hopefully soon.

Personally I wish I had the money to get a GPU and have a larger contribution to getting Stanford into the Teraflop range; they say they only need 10,000 people with gpus. I think it can be done. I hope they have the point system set up so we can see how many gpus each person has and also have the gpu and cpu points per person seperated. That'd be some cool statistics.

The 170 is at it's stock speed. The WUs I've been getting lately aren't very large either. Right now I have two crappy AMBER WUs running, 153 points apiece. The biggest one I've recieved lately was 535 points.

Ambers run a little faster than small gromacs.
From best to worst in terms of PpD is on an AMD is probably ......
DGromacs > Big Gromacs > Tinkers > GBGromacs > Ambers > Small Gromacs.
From over 7 PpHpG down to under 1.8 PpHpG.
So dont go by size, go by what core it runs.
