if you are resourceful you can flip these inside out so the priority side is on the inside and use them for other services

If you are caught doing this, you will go to jail or be severley fined. This is illegal and clearly states so on their packaging/warning signs.
Just a heads up.
I'm glad we are treating whatever companies tell us as law.
Unless you enter a license agreement I doubt they can tell you what to do with your property once they give it to you. Even with a license agreement I doubt it.
thank you so much! ... I use these for storage !![]()

Misuse may be a violation of federal law.
Yep it is called mail fraud and you can go to federal prison for it. You don't own the box the Federal Government owns it.This isn't UPS, this is the USPS we're talking about. As in, UNITED STATES. As in THE GOVERNMENT. Last I checked, the government was responsible for creating and enforcing laws.

From http://reviews.ebay.com/PRIORITY-FLAT-RATE-SHIPPING-MISCONCEPTIONS_W0QQugidZ10000000001707993 :
"priority mail packaging is the property of The United States Postal Service, and is provided solely for sending priority mail. Misuse may be a violation of federal law. The DMM states that any matter mailed in a USPS-provided Express mail or Priority Mail packaging is charged the appropriate rate. Remember, intentional failure to adhere sufficient postage to your mailings may be a violation of federal law (18 USC 1725). If habitual, the postal inspecters are notified of this activity."
Nothing like admitting to a federal crime where god and everybody can see it, if you use these for ANYTHING other than shipping via USPS Priorty Mail you are commiting a Federal Crime!!! Don't be suprised if the Postal Inspector comes knocking on your door!

I totally agree, except for the part where the USPS isn't funded by taxes.... at all. They get all their funding from postal sales. Do you really think a 16oz letter costs 37 cents to mail with no profit from it?
You used to be able to, but now most of them have blue USPS Priority inkstamped inside all around the box.
That doesn't refer to reused boxes or anything else. I'll check the actual stature but, for the most part, once its been used once (and thus the box has already been paid for by the priority shipping fees), there should be no reason they will arrest you for it. Also note it says habitual and use vauge, not concrete language. "May be a violation".
You are free to use them for anything as long as it isn't shipping. I find it hard to believe they are going to track him down for NOT sending any mail.
Technically yes they do make a profit and technically yes the tax payers are paying for it.
If you waste their boxes, they have to up their rates, including thier stamp rates, thus a majority of tax payers, actually, pretty much everyone has to pay the increased stamp rates, businesses has to pay for the increased faires which is trickled down to consumers through products and services.
Also, when you file your taxes through regular means and not to mention pay stubs, you need a stamp for that too.... thus adding to the burden of the general tax payer.
Yes, USPS makes money, thats why they are in business, but don't think they are raking in huge profit margins.
Yes you can reuse the box, but it's quite easy to see which is a new box and which has already been used, obviously you should have "scuffing" on the inside of the inside-out box, thus indicating some prior use. Also, I don't believe they care if you sent one or two this way, but if it becomes to be of a habbit, I'm sure they wouldn't mind nailing you.
This is incorrect. The sole purpose for these boxes is for the convenience of priority shippers and is offered as a benift to those who use that service. If you could do anything you want with it, don't you think that this program would have ended a long time ago? Remember those guys who were sued for making furniture out of these boxes?
Of course they don't care if you have 20 boxes, as long as those boxes are eventually used for the purpose for which they are intended for.
FWIW, we do have a Hard Forum member here who is a Postal Police Officer and his job is to nail people for things like this... I'd be careful of what you guys say on here.
That's a stretch of 7th inning proportions and you know it. When anyone says tax payers, they mean pay for with taxes, not as a charge for services. Cause then you can make the arguement that taxpayers pay for FedEx to stay in business (and when the USPS pays Fedex for the overnight stuff, then according to you, they are).
But, in regards to the suing, wasnt that Fedex suing the kid, not the USPS? That's the only one I heard about. Any links?

Basically, thanks for being someone that screws over those that actually use this properly.
That is no stretch. Fedex or UPS are more seperated from the Government than what the USPS system is. Also, USPS has a lot of federal law protections that UPS/Fedex can only dream off.
Tax payers don't pay for fedex unless if they solicit their services. The average joe does not need to use UPS or Fedex... however, when it comes to filing their taxes and their bills, they are forced at some point in time to use the regular USPS regulated mail system... not fedex or UPS.. thus in every way shape and form, the tax paying person is paying for that added increase.
I am sure you would be shocked to find out that it's very illegal to even keep those plastic USPS mail containers... not to mention touching another persons mailbox. USPS has a lot of government involvement and it does affect a ton of tax payers.
200 you will never use, huh?
They are 'free' because the cost of them is built into the price they charge to ship. The more 'free' shipping boxes you order and do not use, the higher shipping costs get.
Basically, thanks for being someone that screws over those that actually use this properly.
Why do they give these boxes for free? It doesnt make much sense. It would hurt consumers by paying the increase of the rate fares. And why hasnt anyone taken action against it?
awsome........also lame for thoughs nagging at others for admiting they keep them our president did things of fraud and we dont talk bout it....the subject of the matter........FREE SHIPPING BOXES..... that rocks
Tax payers do pay for fedex when they us USPS. The USPS has a contract with FedEx for shipping overnight mail and First-Class mail, aka those 37 cent stamp mail: http://www.postalproject.com/documents.asp?d_ID=2487
And what about those people that e-file or e-billing? I know people that receive everyone of their bills through email, including creditcard statements, and pay online as well. Do they still pay it?
I would not be shocked to find out those two things. One, the post office does not freely give those crates out. and Two, merely touching the mailbox is not an offense. Intent to damage or otherwise prevent mail from being placed there is.
Most USPS rate fare increase are due to inflation and lower dollar purchasing power.
