Well, I was using OE for so long because I was reluctant to pay Hotmail's yearly fee, but I had eventually planned on upgrading so I could use Thunderbird. I've been using OE and Hotmail for so long that they didn't boot me when they began allowing only paid members to use the client.

Now that I have a new machine, I can't configure OE, so it's time I paid for Hotmail so I could run it through TB.

Has anyone had any problems with this schema?
Is Hotmail Popper the most popular utility to accomplish this? Is there a free one?
Does TB have a good Contacts utility?
Is it easy to backup?

I'm probably going to take my only OE files from my desktop HD and transfer them to my laptop so OE is setup, then just setup TB and import everything.

Has anyone had any problems when doing this? I'm so glad to not be using Of-ingE anymore.

You sure you've set everything up correctly. I'm sure that you did because it's pretty simple. But I know for myself, I was able to transfer my Hotmail account from OE on my PC to Entourage on Mac. I didn't pay anything and I still have the same control as before.

I guess if you really want to use the Thunderbird client that badly you will have to pay for that POP3 access (is that was the paid version is convered to?). Or if your sick of Hotmail I would gladly give you an Gmail invite. In many ways Gmail is nicer and easier to use. Think about it.

Thanks for the heads up. I have a gmail and some invites, but I've had this hotmail address for so many years that it's just more of a bother than I care to deal with to change it over, not to mention on every resume and job site I've posted on since 1999.

I don't really mind paying the minimal fee if it's going to be worth it.
