Hot Sync Cradle (USB) not seen by XP

On both my desktop and laptop, during a hot sync with my Palm Pilot m125, the operation hung... and after waiting quite awhile, I shut down the application through the Task Manager.

After that, the system no longer recognizes when I plug in the USB hot sync cradle - and won't sync (of course ;-) the Palm.

The desktop was running ME and I upgraded it to XP - the laptop was pre-installed with XP. I'm running Outlook XP, and some Franklin Covey software that includes Hot Sync Manager. The set up worked just fine on both for some time, then the desktop hung during a hot sync and wouldn't work again. The laptop continued to work and sync for another couple months until it too hung during a sync. Now I pretty much have a useless Palm Pilot.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Outlook, Franklin Covey, the Palm OS, upgrading to a newer Palm OS version, etc. to no avail and neither Microsoft or Palm has any (free) suggestions.

Any ideas?

Thank you!

Darren

something like that was happening to me. after about an hour, i tried installing with the xp device wizzard thing that always pops up when you plug something in for the first time. it just got on the internet and installed something. then it worked.

i know everytime i do my first hot sync after a fresh install, i've always had to have the palm cd in my computer so that it can load the pal m125 drivers...
