I have an AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego. I just recently appiled Arctic Silver 5 to the stock heatsink. Cleaned it up and everything before I applied using 91% isopropyl alc. My Idle temp. is around the low 40's and my load temps are around the low 50's, close to 60C if I OC from 2.4Ghz to 2.6GHz+... Is is supposed to be running this hot? I still haven't broken in the initial 200 hours that is needed for Arctic Silver 5 to work at it's full potential. Could that be the problem?

60* load is the max id push it... are you using stock HSF???

I would get a sythe ninja or a thermalright SI-120 or 92

I like <40 idle <50 load

I was having problems myself with my new 4600+ X2 idle at about 51C load was nearly 65C. Recently was given a CNPS9500 as a gift. I know that the last time I applied my AS5 I put on too much. When it says the size of a grain of rice, they mean it. More isn't necessarily better in this case. But yeah if you're using a stock HSF I would think about something aftermarket

Yes I'm using stock heatsink & fan. When I use my mobo's AI Overclock option at 10%(max), my system is idle at ~40C and ~50 load. It only reached 60C when I try to overclock it more than the 10% manually. I'm thinking about getting a "ZALMAN CNPS9500 LED 92mm 2 Ball Blue LED Light Cooling Fan with Heatsink - Retail" from newegg, but $69 after S&H is just a little too pricey for me right now. It would work beautifully though if it blew the hot air right out of my case's back exhaust fan. Maybe when the price drops...

i'd see if it didnt seat correctly. Sounds like its maybe not making full contact with the heatsink. Also maybe think of investing in an aftermarket heatsink and fan. Here is how I did it:

Stock cooler went in the trash immediately. Got my XP-120 and Thunderblade 120mm and all was good. Temps were in mid 50's underload, and mid 40's idle. Then I OCd to 2.2Ghz and it shot waaaaay up, so I decided to use better thermal compound. AS5 to the rescue. Now I was OC'd with the same temps, maybe a hair lower. Then I OC'd memory, and stepped up CPU. During that time I reseated my Heatsink, and BOOM. 38C Idle and 49C load. Then I wanted to get crazy, so I lapped the XP120 per instructions from this site, and now I Idle at 36C and get to 45-46C under good load, and when both cores are pegged out on my X2, Im at a comfy 49C. Trust me when I say aftermarket thermal compound, fans and HS's are sooooo worth the initial investment.
