I just intalled a Prescott 3.0E and it runs hot. I first tried the Intel stock cooler and it would idle at 50C and above, and under load up to almost 70C. I then tried a Thermalright-947U with a 80mm fan at 5000rpm. It still runs in the 60C and above under a load and idle's at around 47C. I also used artic silver 5 paste with the Thermalright heatsink, but it didn't help. I don't want to invest in water cooling at this time. Does anybody have a suggestion on a better heatsink or a better method to get the processor temps down? Would it help if I would make a air duct for the CPU? Any suggestions that don't cost alot of money would be appreciated.

Thanks

prescotts will always run *VERY* hot. im not sure exactly what are good temps for a prescott, but i know its higher than prettymuch every other cpu.

Prescotts didn't get their PrescHOT nickname for nothing :p

All I can reccomend are more case fans to keep more air moving in from outside the case, either that or a duct.

you could try a sp-94 w/92mm tornado

i have that hot ass in my oc rig and i had to get water on it.

I have a tower case with 6 fans moving the air in and out of the case, but I still get these high temps on this processor.

i wonder why intel calls it the prescott??

it doesn't seem like a person who is a american historian, then again they called it that cause it will MAKE history as being the hottest intel chip to date.

isn't arizona hot to?

sorry just being stupid =]

try dual pelts with massive mother sink on it plus 2 vantec tornadoes, 1 mounted to the case going thru a duct which has the 2nd fan on the HS

Prescott's up north in Arizona, it's actually pretty cold.

Southern Arizona is hot, I live in Yuma, smack dab in the middle of the desert.

yeah i'm running the 2.8E and right now

i have a 45 celcius idle and 55-57 load

cooled by koolance system
