Im building a new rig with a 7800gtx and an AMD 64 3700+ san deigo. I need a good water-cooling system to do this, and i dont ave any idea where to start, can somebody help me?
One of the best things (I think) to do when you're going to start your first water-cooling project is to buy a commercial, pre-built kit. Many people will disagree, especially on these forums, but the thing about the kits is they come with everything. Instructions, all the pieces, and you're guaranteed compatability. Putting it together, with instructions, gives you much needed experience in just how it all works, without the headache of trying to figure it out for yourself.
The best kit for beginners IMO is one of the Asetek Antarcticas. Any one will do it, but they all come with the necessary tubing, blocks, pump, reservior, TIF, connections, etc, as well as clear instructions, and they won't cost you an arm and a leg. Visit Asetek for more info.
Can't tell you where to buy a kit, as I assume you live in the US, while I'm over in Australia. Good luck though.
Looks? ballz out perfornance? looks & performance? What case? What do you want to cool, How much do you want to spend? Need to have more input from you. BTW, do you know the basics of case modding or is this your first project? Need to know what kind of skills you have.
just tell us how much you want to spend, you could get by for under $200 or as much as $600+ depending on how you want it set up, if your buyin a case, etc

this is my case and i was hoping to spend less than $200 on the water cooling. I am a case mod n00b and the last mod i did was with a hammer a nail super glue and fingernail clippers.
(it turned out great, btw)
with a case that massive, and the fact that you are wanting to cool a video card and cpu; factoring in the combined total of around 175w of heat to dissipate (yes, thats with potential overclocking) you can do one of 2 things.
1: Go with a kit that has a single 120mm fan rad. This will get you around 250w heat disspation, but will not leave much room for overhead. it will be very simple to install in that case, just use the back 120mm fan opening, install the rad, and route your tubing as desired. this will also leave you a full 10 bays to install as many things as you want, such as a couple hotswap sata cages.
2: Go with a kit that has a dual 120mm fan rad. This will get you around 400-500w heat dissipation. Your load temps will be close to 5-7c above your idle temps. You will need to cut 2 120mm holes somewhere in the case, and that will probably be at the top of the case. This will require some steady hands, and a dremel or hole cuter. you will probably eat up 2 of your drive bays, and this will make some dificulty in maxing out your case. Your temps will be stelar, and it will generate some more looks than say a kit installed.
most people go with watercooling for 2 reasons.
1: quiet
2: overclocking ability.
If you are going for a quiet rig, jamming more fans inside your case will not help your cause, so go with the single fan rad. you will do just fine.
If you are going for overclocking, nothing screams im extreme than a dual or tripple fan rad. in that case, bite the bullet and pull out the dremel.
My favorite brand is danger den. They have some of the best looking stuff, as well as the best performance out there. They do make a 7800/6800 waterblock that provides cooling for the ram. they do make kits that have all you need. You can purchase danger den from 1 of 2 places.
both places should be ok to deal with. Never heard a bad thing about buying direct, however sometimes they ship in 2 packages, and you get a little delay waiting for the other. Frozen cpu runs a great operation, and they come as a recomend from me.
i believe the egg (www.newegg.com) carries dangerden, but their stock is limited, and so are your choices.
Danger den might put you over the budget tho.. Asetek makes great kits, as well as swiftech. both of those can be found at frozen cpu. Swiftech is sold by newegg as well. $200 is pushing it for a good/great watercooling setup. But it can be done. I jsut dont think you'll be able to do $200 with the GPU cooler.
Remember, you do need to cool the ram on a high end Nvidia card. Dont neglect that or you will shoot yourself in the foot big time.
To performance cool both the GPU and CPU for $200 is going to be kind of hard to do. If you shop around for the best prices you may beable to do it for around $250. Danger Den, Swiftech are both good choices as well as numorus Europian companies. If you're looking for top performance, I'd look towards the Swiftech H2O APEX kit, their Storm block is about the best you're going to get in normal retail shops.
As for places to shop, their are many, FrozenCPU is slightly higher priced than many, Sidewinder Computers, Jab-Tech and Crazy PC are all very good.
this case has 2-120mm fan ports, so why couldnt i use them instead of cutting a new hole?
And, i was wondering just how exactly everything works with water cooling, is there a diagram or something i could see, because its all still a mystery to me.
