My idle CPU temp is 45C. As I am writing this running LimeWire my CPU is 49C. After playing BF2, I've seen 52-55C which does cool down after a minute or two.

Am I running too hot?

Specs are in signature.

lol Not at all. 45c idle is great. Most people get 50c idle and 65c load.
 
Northwood is 65c to throttle and 70c to shut off i think and presscot is 70c to throttle and 80c to shut off.

maybe with precotts... my old northwood is 30 C idle and load in the 40's.

also. my 2.8E never goes above 65 C... every time i play a game and check the highest temp, it is 65 C. could it be throttling at that temp?
 
Mine goes to about 56 at load. Idle like 50 ish. Prescott gets very warm.
 
my northwood idles at 30 and is 36 at load...and if i don't replace this cooler with somethign quieter, i'm going to hang myself.
 
My 3.2 Prescott @ 3.6 idles at about 55 and loads at about 75.....Im looking forward to saving on my heat bill this winter :) .

I don't know what heatsink you have, but if its aftermarket you need to try removing it and re-installing to get better contact.

Yeah, she is a bit warm... Im dumping it and going back to a 3.2 Northwood......I have a good cooler on it, it just likes to shake and bake :)

Dude you didn't do something right if your 3.2 @ 3.6 is above 70. Your thermalpaste must not be on correct or your fan is slow.

The girlfriends PC with OEM HS/F can run 3.6 @ under 63C and it's only a 3.0ghz!

And as far as I new ThermalSpec was 67.7 for the 3.0 & 3.2

Heh..No I re applied it 2 times when I first set it up...Its on there right, its just hot....Im not really worried about it, if it burns up..Oh well :)
 
People are forgetting that you have an Abit motherboard. Abit are known to report the cpu temp about 8-10 degrees C too hot. I have had my 3.2GHz prescott in an Asus P4P800 deluxe and it was running around 36-37C under load with watercooling when ambient was 27-28C. When the Asus died and i went to the abit IC7 max 3 board with identical cooling and setups, I jumped to a whopping 53C under load. Turned out after searching all the literature, that Asus boards as known to under report by about 5-7C while Abit over report by 8-12C.

So, if your core is really at 42C, Asus motherboards will tell you it is 35C while the Abit will tell you 50-52C. Trust me, so many people have had this problem that if you google it (abit versus asus temperature), there is even an actual test that someone did and posted over the net. My personal experience with these motherboards confirm their findings as well.

In essence, your readings of in the 50s or 60s underload is fine if you are to compare temperatures to others using an Asus board.

You are correct.. Mine is also an IC7.....:)
 
Mine's an ASUS P5LD2 as well does that mean i`m really in the 30s with OEM HS/F and mid. 40s overclocked I doubt it.

Actually, if yours is an Asus then add about 7C to what it is reporting to get your actual temp. It is deflating but if you really want to know the truth, that is what is the temperature is.
 
we need to make a sticky in both the intel and amd thread that lists healthy temperatures for each model and core revision so little nooblets wont have to ask :D ...*goes off to make thread*
