I recently bought a 160 GB Maxtor (7200 RPM I believe) hard disk. I'm running it as my "Storage" hard disk. I have Azureus running and it's downloading a few torrents so that may have an affect. Anyway the front beezel of my case is off and I can touch the front of the hard disk. It is HOT. I mean if I keep my finger on it for more than 5 seconds it will burn. I downloaded a program to view the temperature of the hard disk and it is 44ºc. I know that bittorrent is write/read intensive but this program does have a "memory" cache feature where it doesn't read/write all the time, rather storing a certain ammount in the cache before reading or writing.
My question is... is this too hot? Obviously heat is not good for eletrical and mechnical items but I wonder if the hard disk might be defective and whether or not this is in the normal operating temperatutue of hard disks.
On another note I just got my RMA maxtor replacment for a 2 year old 80 GB that died. That hard disk had a 3 year warranty, this one only has a 1 year now.
Thanks
