So my CPU runs about 44*C idle/65*C load (IBT), which is fine, but it is doing this at 1.2625V & 3.7 GHz (I have set Tjmax @ 100*C). These temps seem way out of line from what I've seen, and I'm not real sure whats going on. So my specs are:

E8400
P5Q Pro
S1283 w/ Scythe S-FLEX SFF21F
Antec 300 case with 2x Yate-Loon Med in front, 1x YL low in back and Tri-cool on low on top
2x 4850 (running around 35-40*C)
4GB Dominator ram (PC8500)
620HX

From speedfan, my system is about 32*C under load (28*C idle), CPU reads 19*C/44*C (didn't adjust due to Tjmax though, probably why so low) and my HDD runs at 24*C. Any help would be appreciated. I have re-mounted the HSF (and previous mount looked good, covered entire chip without much extra) and didn't see a change in temp. Thanks
 
it seems decent, but its also a bit high, to be honest.

Check this out, interesting read since it applies to your cooler.
 
That doesn't seem too out of the ordinary considering you're running at 3.7GHz. Remember, heat goes up with frequency as well as with voltage.
 
@Casper 312 - That is how I applied AS5 both times...not real sure whats going on...

But is also idles at maybe 42-43 with 1.20V...but maybe its a stuck sensor, I will drop back down the voltage to stock and stress it...see what happens
 
Alright, so I went back to 3.0 ghz & 1.20V and I get 44*C/60*C (idle/load). Something is off here, as the reviews I've read are at least 10*C cooler, and usually with a Conroe or Quad for testing. Also, my stock cooler ran around the same temperatures (actually was 59*C load with it) at the same settings. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

-Not sure if it matters, but there doesn't seem to be an appreciable difference in running the CPU fan @ 700 or 1500 rpms...seems like it should make some difference, but it isn't more than a degree if any.
 
Might want to check both the heatsink and cpu for ???"flatness"???

I know that you said your getting a good contact patch for AS5 but does that require exces to do so???

It's not really that hard to polish the heatsink or the processor. I've polished about 4 q6600's not and only once did I not see an idle temperature decrease of at least 1C
 
I have a X3350 on water. My idle temperature are 46-46-48-48 with a room temperature of 27c [ small bedroom with two computer running 24/7 ] . Running five console of Folding@home [ 1 for each core and one for the GPU ] my temperature go up to 57-55-56-54 with the room temperature at 27c. What is your room temperature? If it is cold out side open up the window and maybe run a fan to cool the room down and see what your temperature are then. When I lower my room temperature to 20c to 22c my cpu temperature went down to 35-34-38-38 at idle.

dont want to hijack the thread.. but you should look into running the SMP client instead of 4 single cpu clients.. get a little more PPD only downfall is the stability and PITA to set it up but theres guides in the distributing computing section of the forum..



but as for this thread.. i agree with zero's question about using the bolt through kit.. if your not using it then it could explain your semi high temps due to it not sitting flush on the cpu..
 
It is the bolt-through kit and i would guess the room is 19-20*C, so its not hot in here....I could polish it, but I have not seen many try to do that due to the exposed pipes on the HS...but maybe I need to do it to the processor. I wouldn't really say it is an excess amount of AS5, two lines maybe 3/4" long and not even a full bead (tip flattened it as I applied). I don't think it will have anything to do with it, but I'm going to try to update my BIOS and see if anything changes....gone all day though so it won't be until tonight/tomorrow.
 
Alright, so I think I'm going to have to give lapping a go...never done it before, so could someone possibly direct me towards a decent guide (I realize its simple, but some seem hesitant with the exposed heat pipes, so I would really like to know what I'm doing beforehand). Thanks.
 
Well I lapped the CPU and half-assed the HSF (hard to keep it from vibrating...need practice apparently, so I just stopped after a few tries) and the idle may have dropped 1-2*C, but my load did drop from 60*C to 54*C at stock and its now at 65*C under IBT at 1.325 & 3.9GHz. Not really sure why my working temps don't really change, still at 43 - 44 almost always, so I suppose I am happy. Thanks again.
