Hot ?!?! 5850 newegg

Thanks for posting! In for 1... almost got 2 to Crossfire, but came to my senses. I don't need THAT much power.

nice. would look great in my H55n, any idea how it overclocks?

I would definitely wait a few weeks to see what the next gen cards do to the 5850 prices. I hoping for $150 for another 5850!

IIRC the Vapor and Toxic series overclock really well.

Yea if I see a 5850 for 150 brand new I'm getting another for Tri-Fire :) :D

Welcome to the enthusiast way of life, gentlemen. Unless you buy on release, you can be sure as hell prices will keep dropping.

You should stop buying video cards if you were looking for your cash to hold its value for a long time.

actually when the gtx 275 and 4890 came out those held their value for well over a year... in fact they APPRECIATED in price. didnt help that everyone went crazy over 5770s and the gts 250s even though they were beat by the gtx 260 and 4870/4890.

GTX260s went up in price as well, however that was not a normal occurrence. Nvidia's complete inability to reduce production cost GTX2xx or get out anything else before Fermi cause those problems. My friend bought a GTX260 for $140 two years ago. Last year at this time those cards were $200. Everyone was left with artificially high prices because the Nvidia/AMD price and performance was not going on.

The fact remains that is is historically a bad idea to purchase hardware when their is always something newer and better coming out in week or months.

Not that it's the norm, but same thing happened with my Radeon 5850. Bought it immediately after launch for $259 w/o any rebates or codes etc. Then the MSRP was raised and here we are over a year later and it's dropped down to a mere ~$20 less than what I payed at launch. Meanwhile, I played games like crazy all winter vs playing the waiting game.

Doesn't usually work out that way, but when a new Windows OS, new Intel chipset/cpu, and new vid card gpu all launch together and all of turn in solid performance/reviews, that's perfect timing. Done it 3 times in the past (os/cpu/gpu launch) and ALWAYS have gotten my money's worth.
