hostname same as IP

I have a game server I run and I lookup the IP info on troublemakers.

I notice that some players have a hostname the same as their IP address.

For example: http://whatismyipaddress.com/ip/184.90.166.109

Hopefully posting that IP address doesn't break forum rules - I am just trying to show an example.

Anyway, I am wondering what this is about.

Is it due to dynamic IP? Or dynamic DNS? Or a proxy?

Thanks a lot. This has been bugging me, lol.

just means you dont have a DNS resolution for your IP, you can do it, but you dont have to.

I am assuming that's the IP of either you or one of the players; in which case the ISP just hasn't assigned a hostname to it. Some do, some don't. Not a big deal.
