So, I am thinking about putting some time into reselling hosting, I have a friend that makes about 3k a month from doing this, what are the basics of this? Like, what should I been looking for when I myself purchase hosting to resell. Any other info would be great.

-Thanks

I would ask them. Sounds like they are doing well.

I was thinking of it, not sure if he will tell me though. He is a good friend, but a damn greedy one at that.

Truthfully, if you have to ask, you shouldn't do it. Resellers are the plague of this industry. They are famous for ruining web hosts by overusing resources by buying a reseller hosting account, then over-selling it for dirt cheap with promises of unlimited space and bandwidth.

As a reseller, YOU are responsible for providing support to people who rent from you, NOT the company you bought your space from. You must also manage everyone's accounts, make sure they don't violate server rules (1 user violation = ALL users being locked out/sites down). Also, you must monitor server load. One bad script or site can ruin the experience for all of your 'customers'.

Most resellers are high school/college kids looking to make a quick buck. A good example is www.iamyourhost.com. One of my friends made the mistake of hosting his site there, MySQL was constantly down due to the overload of resources and connections.

Well, I used to resell FTP space, so I know about the support, and violation of TOS. I am not going to over sell my server, as I know that is bad. What I ment by help was, Does any one kow any dedicated server companys they are good, but not cost an arm and a leg? OR any tips.

here is a good all around web hosting resource: www.webhostingtalk.com (WHT)
They have sections specifically for resellers and dedicated server hosts, as well as a classifieds section where companies post deals. Just make sure you search any company you find in the classifieds section in the rest of the site to make sure user reviews are good.
