Host in Cluster-- Intermittent Connectivity Lost

I have a host in a cluster that VCenter intermittently loses connection to. I cannot ping the host as soon as it goes down and I have to reboot the host to get it working again.

I can still still get into the ESXi box via ipKVM and get into the ESXi console. There, I can ping itself but I can't ping anything else.

It seems like the host becomes isolated for no good reason. I tried changing the port on the switch, changing cables, alternating between one/two management uplinks, etc.

Once I restart the host, everything works but usually between 5-40 minutes, it does the same thing again.

Has anyone seen this before?

Really sounds like the NIC is going bad. I've seen this happen before where it will work for a limited time before malfunction. Definitely try another NIC if you can.
 
ESX classic or ESXi?

If i, can you get me the last /var/log/messages file before you reboot it next time?
 
I will get you the log this evening.

By the way I have two built in NICS on my motherboard and I tried both of them and I still get the same issues.

I tried to place a Broadcom 5709 NIC card in that machine and my ESXi gets stuck loading VMKLINUX..and that card is compatible with ESXi 4.1
