My wife is really, REALLY into the ghost hunting stuff and crime drama crap.. LOL!! I've picked up a couple of relatively "cheap" games for her here and there, but I would love to get her a couple games that she can really get into.. She's not into first-person shooters or anything like that, so keep that in mind..

I need something like D (Anyone remember that?) and Fatal Frame from the consoles.. I figure I can pick up the CSI based games for the suspense and crime drama stuff..

If shes into the ghost hunting stuff, she might get a kick out of ghost master. IIRC its $10 on steam. The goal is usually do drive everyone out of a house, scaring them, or driving them insane in the process :)

haven't played it yet but Dracula: Origins is getting good reviews.

Maybe Condemned (both of them)? Limited shooting-mainly clober enemies and it will scare the living daylights.

Check out the Penumbra games. Or a whodunit, like Sherlock Holmes The Awakened. Or Indigo Prophecy for a good story and mystery, the game starts with a grissly murder in a diner and you have to investigate. Excellent game, it's called Fahrenheit in the US. http://uk.gamespot.com/pc/adventure...t=convert&om_clk=gssummary&tag=summary;review

I actually really liked the Gabriel Knight games, excellent murder mystery themes, but I'm not sure how these games look these days.

Thanks for the info.. I'll check these out.. Keep the titles coming, though.. Heheh.. ;)

Best horror game was alone in the dark, the original. That game freaked me out.

for scary games u might want to check this thread out ;)

my personal favorite scary game, Penumbra

Well, you have to keep in mind that these titles are for my wife.. She's not a hardcore gamer or anything like that, and FPS games are definitely not her thing.. Point and click stuff is about her speed, though she can play first-person games.. She's just not into that shoot'em up stuff, as she puts it.. Heheh..

I'm primarily a hardcore sim-racer, so this stuff is out of my realm as well.. Keep the titles coming, though.. Gonna pick a couple up this weekend if I can.. :)

check out a game called evidence and it's sequel evidence: the last ritual. they put you intothe role of an investigator tracking down a serial killer who has left you clues through solving puzzles and tracking down info on the web.involves a really cool use of videos and what not and even gets a little creepy here and there. it's a really cool concept and great for non-hardcore gamers, because you can go at your own pace and doesnt require great use of the keyboard and mouse like first person shooters do. my girlfriend actually picked the sequel up and loved it. hope this helps

These two titles are actually on my "want" list, and have been for a week or two.. Finding them is a bit tough though.. Seems like no one local is carrying them anymore, and even finding them online is tough.. Heheh.. These are the kinds of games she can really get into..

Does she like adventure games? Because this is an area that adventures games are (imo) very good at.

As far as "crime/mysteries" go, I'd recommend you start her with some more recent aventure games, like:

Still life (this is a great murder/mystery game, she'd definitely like this if she likes things like CSI/crime dramas, etc. It has a prequel, Post mortem, but you don't have to have played it to "get" this game, infact part of the game goes back and you play a bit from the perspective of the main character in post mortem, which is Still life's main character's grandfather. There's currently a sequel to Still life on the way as well)
Fahrenheit (aka Indigo prophecy).

I'm also going to throw in Sanitarium here, even though it's a bit older. Sanitarium can be had for fairly cheap these days and it is one of the best "creepy" adventure games out there. A great memorable game that she won't forget anytime soon.

Another older game I'd recommend as well is Blackstone Chronicles (based on the book of the same name).

If she likes either of those then you can delve deeper into older ones or others that might not be neccessarily "horror/suspense" but general mystery, etc.

I'd recommend:
Syberia I and II (One of my personal favorite adventure series, not really "horror" but a great storyline and characters)
The Longest journey/dreamfall (though dreamfall tried a few new things like fighting in it)
Scratches
Culpa Innata (a more recent adventure game, just came out a few months back, looots of talking/dialogue in it though)

There's also the older series like Gabriel Knight, which were EXCELLENT horror/mystery/suspense games but the first and second one are a bit old, the third one isn't "too" old.

The Blade Runner game is also quite a good game, especially if you liked the film.

The Tex Murphy games are similar to blade runner as well, but they are a bit old too.

Another series that I might recommend is the Nancy Drew games, not personally up my alley but they are generally well reviewed adventure games and some of them pertain to ghosts and that sort of thing.

You can read some reviews on them here:

and pick which ones she might like.

The quivering is up that alley as well:

I've been playing The Experiment and it's pretty good. It's got an eerie, creepy atmosphere to it, but is more in the mystery category.

my girlfriend found the evidence sequel at target i believe, and it was only a couple months ago so you might have luck there... good luck

This post!

Man forgot about blackstone chonicles! That was a pretty creepy game without actually showing anything.

Although you said she isn't on FPS games, man.....

Get her Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines then do the following:

Wait until night. Make her use headphones, reduce ambient light, leave her alone on the room and make she play through the Ocean House Hotel quest. You earn her that.

Remember to give her an additional underwear and pants afterwards.

Penumbra sounds like an excellent choice for her, lots of fun interactive puzzle solving in scary, suspensfull settings. The only game to make me breath hard and forget I was just playing a game.

That's a great one.

I've never played them, but there are Nancy Drew games. Read a review and see if that sounds appealing.

Most of the games I know of that fit your description are older, and probably hard to find. Most of them have already been listed.
